Transitioning to cup from bottle

Hi could really use some helpful advice. My 9 month old son has been drinking water out of doidy cup no problem for months now however recently decided to try and get him drinking his milk out of the cups as well (realise I should probably have started this at the same time as the water oops). He is being incredibly stubborn about the whole thing and just refuses to drink any milk until his evening bottle. Obviously this can’t continue as he needs more than that at his age. Just wondering if anyone else had experienced similar problems and has any tips also if they know how long it takes for baby to finally start drinking again. We are going on 4 days now and starting to worry he’s just not going to drink milk until evening bottle now.

I wouldn't bother until closer to 1 year tbh. If he takes water ok from the cup that's fine. Milk can be dealt with in a few months

Mine did this when I weaned him off breastfeeding at 13 months. Would drink water fine from a cup but refused all milk. I just upped his dairy from other sources (milky porridge, yoghurt, cheese) and after a few months he came round to the idea of milk from a cup.

Wouldn't worry at all until older.

We found the straw cups a really good transition between bottle and cup for milk.

Like yours, my DS would drink gallons of water from the doidy but refuse milk. Now at 18 months he drinks milk from anything.

The right time will come and 9 months really is still so very little

Bit young yet I think, I would wait until after a year old.

I wouldn't worry about it yet, at 9 months the bottle is still a bit about comfort and physical contact, which is just as important as nutrition at that age. I usually start to introduce a cup for milk at 12 months when they move on to cows milk.

I was literally coming on to this board to post the exact same query! DD is 9 months and will take sips of water from a sippy cup but refuses point blank to drink milk from it so milk is still from a bottle (also still bf at night and first thing in the morning). I have 3 different types of sippy cup but she's not keen on any of them.

Advice here in Ireland is that all drinks besides breast milk should be from a cup not bottle by their first birthday.

We're advised to phase out bottles for milk at around 1 year and to introduce a cup around 6 months for water

Ah right. NHS advice sounds much more doable Smile
