Infant feeding

How much roughly do your 4/5 week old babies drink and how often. I have been breastfeeding but also expressing to offer bottles as a nasty bout of mastitis meant it was too painful to feed for a while but was able to express. DS was 9lb 9oz at birth and was 10lb 1oz last week - HV is happy with weight gain.

Every baby is so very different. As long as baby is gaining weight appropriately then all is fine

Yeah I don’t expect there to be an exact amount I am just interested what the average range is Smile

Expressed milk should be given at around 1-1.5 oz per hour between feeds and pace fed.

Well my FF drank 5 x the recommended amount since he was born.

BF babies take on average 1 floz per hour, so if you can get them to drink more than 2 floz, you're doing well Smile

Ok so I think my little piglet is doing fine then. He drinks around 4oz every 4 hours (some feeds are breast feeds so not every feed) but also then goes 7/8 ish hours over night so guessing it all evens out. When he has bottles only in the day he averages between 12-21oz which I’m guessing is ok. HV will weigh at 6 weeks so just have to wait and see.
