Silent reflux? Please help!

Hi all, really desperate for people's opinions! Please be kind.

My little girl is nearly 5 weeks old and is really unsettled. She spends most of the day crying like she is in pain but she is quite settled during the night? The last few days she seems to be really struggling with her bottles. She will drink a small amount and then start crying like she is struggling and in pain. She will not lay on her back and will only fall asleep on someone. She will wake as soon as she is put on her back but will stay asleep if put on to her front. She also has really vicious hiccups multiple times a day, has a lot of sneezing fits and quite often a snotty nose.

I came across silent reflux online which matches all her symptoms so I tried her on C&G anti reflux (was on C&G 1) but it doesn't seem to be doing anything I'm really trying to avoid loads of different things as I don't want to make her even more uncomfortable but I'm at my wits end and it's absolutely heartbreaking seeing her so unsettled and upset.

I've spoke to my HV who was absolutely useless and can not get a Drs appt with all this Coronavirus. I feel so helpless

Just replying to offer my sympathy really. One of my kids had this, I described it as 'stealth vomiting', the opposite of projectile vomiting. Often I only noticed when I realised my leg was warm and wet.
Obviously you'll want to get it checked out if it doesn't settle down, but all I can say is it was an absolute nuisance in my DC's case, but absolutely harmless. I think we were given sachets of infant Gaviscon to put in feeds, TBH I don't think it made much difference, but it made me think it was.

We were told he'd get better when he sat up... then weaned .. then walked. Truth of the matter was it didn't go away till he was 10 months old and I fed him solid chicken and chips in a restaurant on holiday. (I'm not suggesting you do that by the way!).

Thank you for the reply snowegg.. it truly is awful. She isn't actually sick very often and if she is it's the tiniest bit. Other than that it is just spit bubbles. She is just so upset and I'm so desperate to find something that helps but really want to avoid trying too many different things on her poor tummy

Just wanted to know if anyone found anything that works as I've seen a lot of people with the same problems Sad

This sounds so familiar!
We started our now almost 10 week old on infant gaviscon after speaking with our GP.
Our health visitor was also pretty useless.
It started with her vomiting up clear liquid, wouldn’t make a sound doing it and only noticed when we noticed she was wet or we were.
Sometimes I would have to give up trying to feed her, she would go ridged, scream and go red in the face.
It got to the point where we ended up in a&e as she was vomiting up the small amount we got in her and therefore wasn’t peeing enough.
So currently, I give her one lot of gaviscon with her first ‘day time’ feed and that seems to be enough to sort it for her, it can be given up to 6 times a day, but when I have it to her 2-3 times a day, it was enough to make her poop pretty formed.
As for the hiccups, she had 4+ episodes of hiccups a day whilst I was pregnant (she was head down all the time so it was really noticeable!), she continued with lots of hiccups that were pretty violent up until about 6 weeks, she still gets them maybe once a day but they are much less violent and don’t seem to upset her anymore.
She is on normal cow and gate premade and expressed breast milk.
We tried moving to powdered cow and gate but it made the reflux so bad, we went back to premade, this was prior to the gaviscon so will try powdered again in a couple of weeks.
I hope this makes sense and can be of some help, I had to stop writing mid post, so It might be a bit muddled!
