12 month old suddenly wanting to breastfeed constantly

Posted about this on the behaviour and development board too but wanted to see if anyone had any experience of their still breastfed 12/13 month olds suddenly starting to want to feed constantly again? We were down to three feeds a day and now my daughter is constantly trying to feed - she’s always been demand fed so I don’t refuse her but hadn’t expected this. It seemed to start just after her one year vaccinations (sleep has also gone out of the window) but not sure if this is a coincidence or not. Anyone else experienced similar? Do we just need to ride it out?! Thanks for any thoughts / reassurance 😊

Totally normal I'm afraid and it will get better. There are some things you can do, like never offering, never refusing and only feeding in one place. Distracting her with a nice drink and a snack might help too like hot chocolate or diluted fruit juice.

This article on Kellymom might be useful too Smile

Thank you, will have a read! Did you find that this coincided with sleep problems? She’s usually brilliant at self-settling (two naps a day, one good long stretch of 11.5ish hours a night) but is now a real nightmare to get down to sleep - she wants to feed and feed, then howls when she is in her cot 😔 Both the sleep and the feeding started up straight after her one year vaccinations but sounds like that might be a coincidence?

I'd try her with a dose of Calpol to see if she's in any discomfort.

Have you thought if trying one nap after lunch too?

She’s actually been on two naps a day for a while but I think might be ready to start transitioning to one - going to give it a try for a few days and see what happens.

The feeding has calmed down slightly so hopefully that continues! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
