4 month old PITA

So DS is about 4.5 months now. Bottle fed from 1 week. He has reflux but since we got that under control with gaviscon he's ate like a champ. He's a big boy with an appetite to match. Around 98th percentile for height and weight.

In the last week, pretty much as he's started showing the signs of the 4 month leap it's been a right pain to feed him. All distractions have to be removed including whichever one of us isn't feeding him. TV/radio switched off. When we get towards the end of his bottle, down to the last 60mls he starts to dick around. Chewing the bottle, smiling, grabbing at it with his hands and pulling it out of his mouth. Pushing the milk out of his mouth with his tongue. I don't think he needs to go up a test size, he only actually spends about 15 mins feeding, the rest of the time is spent faffing. Anyone have any tips on how to get past this?

Teething?

If he's on Gaviscon, you probably need to go up a teet size. I used reflux milk with my two and had them on the fastest teet with it, otherwise it never came out!!

Selfsettling3 · 04/04/2020 21:13

Maybe he doesn’t want the last 60mls.

bloodywhitecat · 04/04/2020 21:17

What happens if he doesn't take the last 60mls? My baby is a similar age and takes anything between 30mls and 180mls each feed.

Roseysheep · 04/04/2020 21:19

Sounds like he just doesn't want the last 60ml

neverenoughwipes · 04/04/2020 21:20

My baby started doing this too at this age, I just took it that he was full and gave up! His appetite really fluctuates with leaps and things now, he's 8m and has some weeks where I can hardly get 7oz in him and he used to have 5 x 9oz bottles a day as standard!

Don't worry Thanks

What a weird post. Maybe he is full up as others say?

Thesearmsofmine · 04/04/2020 21:23

As above it sounds like he just doesn’t want the rest of the milk. If he doesn’t want it that is fine even if he has been having more milk recently, he may be done or just want a break and will finish the rest in 20 or 30 mins.

amazedmummy · 04/04/2020 21:57

Sorry he's my first, I don't mean to be weird. He was previously finishing his bottles and we haven't increased the amount. He's never started to eat less before he's always eventually wanted more.

@Fatted gaviscon doesn't thicken the milk in the bottle at all just when it's in his tummy.

Sorry everyone, I didn't mean to be so stupid.

We have parenting moments like this OP. I remember with DD1 struggling for weeks and weeks on an evening to get her into a baby grow for bed and then suddenly one night it dawned on me that I could just get her some pjs.

Fatted · 04/04/2020 22:16

@amazedmummy it does thicken the milk in the bottle. DS1 was on it and his milk went like foam with it. It might be he's struggling to get the last bit out if it's too thick.
