My 16 day old daughter is drinking 4oz milk every 2.5-3hours. Is this too much?

How much is she drinking over 24 hours and how much does she weigh?

Congratulations too Thanks

Lucyloo102 · 21/03/2020 16:37

About 16/20oz a day I would say and she weighs 7lb 2oz.

Thank you!

That sounds about right then. They need 2.5floz per pound in weight in 24 hours so if she's taking slightly more one day and slightly less another, it should all work out.

Does she finish the whole bottle each time?

Okay great. The health visitor said she’ll only have what she needs but I just thought 4oz sounded a lot. No, she doesn’t always finish the bottle but has done the past few feeds. Main reason I’m asking is because it was only about 3 days ago she was happy with 3/3.5oz and the past couple of days has been guzzling a whole 4oz and wouldn’t settle unless she had it all and I thought it was strange. @JiltedJohnsJulie

The amount she takes will increase over time so I wouldn't worry too much. As long as you stick to 2.5 floz per pound in weight, until you start introducing solids at 6 months, you'll know you're not over feeding her Smile

If she is completely draining 4floz, you need to make 5fliz. Babies should never drain a bottle, there should always be some left so that you know they've had enough Smile

Okay thankyou! I’ll make up 5floz from now then as she definitely finishes the full 4oz but it seems to send her straight to sleep bless her. It just seems so much for my tiny little babyBlush @JiltedJohnsJulie
