BF Time

Right I think I'm driving myself insane.
I've got a baby tracker app which just helps me remember when I last changed a nappy or put DD to bed and I use it to time feeds so I know which side I started on etc. But I've started noticing DD 8m is only feeding for ~20 minutes a day at the moment. A whole day! Only 20 minutes of breastfeeding. Is this normal? Does anyone time their feeds and can impart any wisdom?

Solids are going great so she isn't hungry but my boobs are full because of this sharp decrease in feeding and I guess I feel a bit like I've lost my magic. BF was my cure for everything and now it's fallen out of favour Sad

How old is she thebigthreefive?

PopcornAndWine · 09/03/2020 18:53

My DD is 7 months and she is generally only taking very short feeds now. We do give formula as well in the evenings though.

If she is doing well on solids and still appears to be thriving/growing etc then I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.

It's been a while for me, but I remember that as babies grow they get much more efficient in bf so are able to get bigger amounts in shorter periods of time. Could this be it? I don't remember which age this starts exactly but it does make sense

@JiltedJohnsJulie OP stated DD is 8 months. OP I second what sometimes says. Mine is nearly 4mo and already drains me in 10 minutes, as opposed to 40!

thebigthreefive · 09/03/2020 19:50

Sometimes I get my boobs out for 40 seconds! A long feed is 4 minutes at the moment, she's still doing plenty of wet nappies and definitely looks to be thriving so I guess we'll just carry on with these speed feeds Sad

Whoops sorry, missed that bit!

Ageee with the others, some babies just like a quick feed at that age Smile

My almost 9 month old is similar (usually around 30-35 mins a day) and I get worried about it. I took him to be weighed and he’s gaining weight faster than he ever has done (he was always a slow gainer prior to solids) so he’s clearly getting enough milk and food. I think, as others have said, they become more efficient but also they’re so much more interested in everything so feeding becomes a bit boring for them. I just assume that if he was hungry he’d be letting me know 🤷‍♀️
