Mastitis - anyone tell me how long their symptoms lasted? I'm all achy!

Felt not right for a few days but got fever & whole body aching like flu today!

Got weeks worth of antibiotics from doctors today, I hate being ill, I'm already sick of aching & just want to lie on sofa when I've got loads of stuff to do!

How long are the aches likely to last?????

I started to feel better after two days. Getting baby to feed as much as possible on the sore boob really helps to speed recovery.

I always felt SO much better within 24 hours (at most, usually earlier) of starting anti-b's.
Feed alot, apply hot flannels (wet & wring the m/wave until they are as hot as you can bear then press on the boob), get as much rest as you can.

Mastitis is horrid! You should fine those anti-b's will bring rapid relief though. I felt better a few hours after they kicked in.

Speak2deb and ChasingSquirrels advice about getting baby to feed there as much as possible, hot flannels, rest (if you can) all helped with me. I found massaging my poorly boob under water in a hot bath helped too.

Hope you feel better soon.

I have had mastitis 6 times now.. I always felt much better on day 2 but still not 100%. feed feed feed feed and express between feeds to keep breast empty.

*warm compresses to help the milk flow

  • cool compresses to reduce heat and swelling - this is brilliant for soothing.

  • paracetamol for reducing temperature and helping with aches

  • rest as much as possible

Hope you feel better soon. Mastitis is not fun..
