exclusively BF 6-month old son won't drink formula!

some advice please! son has been bf exclusively, and am starting to wean now, which is all going fine (thank god!) but desperate to start with formula as a) he's still waking at night for feeds, and b) going back to work in a month or so, and don't want to be expressing while in the office. (so will probably only keep early morning bf, i think).

gave him his first bottle of formula last night at bed time to start him off... and he adamantly refused it! (he's fine with bottles as he usually has an expressed one at bedtime - it was obviously the taste). put him to sleep without, in hope that hunger would induce him to take it on next waking. at 11, he refused the bottle again, and at 3, on refusing formula the 3rd time, i caved and breast fed him. (he'd already been 10 hours without anything!)

any advice?? do i just keep on like this?? or starve him for longer?? (my husband thinks this is the way.) or go out and buy a different brand?? (have SMA gold at the mo). would really appreciate anyone's thoughts on this! thank you :-)

Try a different brand. My daughter hated Aptamil, but likes SMA Gold. Can you mix with a bit of expressed milk to get him used to the taste?

oooh thanks... good to know. think i'll try aptimil then, as judging from your dauther's reaction, it probably tastes very different to the SMA! (but will buy a little carton first time round, instead of one of the big tins... aaaargh!)
