Help! Baby is 11 weeks old and have been primarily breastfeeding with occasional formula top up. Almost 2 weeks ago suddenly started getting what looked like green diarreah after feeds. Have been to doctor twice and they say baby is fine. I cant wortk out whats wrong. It happens with breastmilk and with formula. It's not dairy issue as there's no hives etc. Ive made my diet stupidly healthy to avoid anything. At loss what to do...getting zero sleep. anyone got any ideas?

Are you making sure he’s getting plenty of hind milk as well as fore milk? You need to let them stay on one side for a good few minutes, until let down has slowed and they’re taking big, slow sucks. Too much fore milk can cause green explosive poos.

I used to only feed dd from one side for the main feed, then switch over if my other boob was very full. It ensures she got the fatty hind milk as well.

Oh realised you didn’t say he! Sorry.

Dont discount a dairy allergy or In tolerance.

I'm well past this stage but saw your thread on active and it triggered a (thankfully) memory. I breastfed and yeah I think it happens. I reckon it was when my ds was a bit under the weather. This site was useful kellymom.com/mother2mother/m2m-green-stools/

Thanks guys. I'll keep trying to work it out. Just can't work out why it happens on boob and on formula.

Is it green everytime he does a bowl movement? Might be worth going to see a lactation consultant or talk to the NCT breastfeeding hotline

We have been having the same! DD has been under the weather and my breast milk has been coming out a bit clear so I'm putting it down to that. Have also been to the doctors who are not concerned so who knows x

Mine went green when teething every time and it smelt like vinegar too if that helps. I am no expert on the cause but it was very normal and predictable for my little one.
