breastfeed bible

hi,

is there any breastfeed bible out there that you would recommend? i would like to buy one and just searched amazon, but there are so many books about it. i would like one that has a bit of everything: our body, production, faqs, etc.

any suggestion is welcomed.

'What to expect' The first year.

It has a big section covering breastfeeding but also covers what to expect in a month by month guide as your baby grows.

Also has a first aid section, recipe section for weaning, what to expect as a new mum, a new dad etc.

This has been my bible. You can read it bit by bit, month by month....I keep refering to it, it's great!

Thought I'd stick the link on so you could see what it looks like.

Breast is Best - Andrew and Penny Stanway

Breastfeeding Essentials (or other way round) - Sharon Trotter. It is a very easy to read book

I've banged on about this book on another thread recently but it is really fab, 'Bestfeeding:How to Brestfeed your Baby' by Mary Renfrew, Chloe Fisher and Suzanne Arms.

Absandme the only problem I had with that book whilst flicking through it at a friend's house the other day was the section about how to wean at 12 months, like there was no alternative. I thought from that maybe it wasn't BF friendly, but perhaps I misread?

(Not saying that people should feed beyond 12m, but they shouldn't have to stop either IMO)

There was a good bf bit at the start, I read it loads of times as in early days had issues. I favor the month by month what to expect from your baby bits, as for the 12mnth weaning, I'm gonna wean when I want, not coz the book suggests 12mnths!

I like it coz it was an easy read but I've not read other bf books so can only recommend this one!

I found this book a godsend: what to expect when you're breastfeeding, and what if you can't, by Clare Byam Cook. Very down to earth. doesn't go down the route of - it's supposed to hurt so just put up with it. 5 stars.

Second the Clare Byam Cook recommendation. She is brilliantly no nonsense and also no-guilt. She's an ex mid-wife and many paediatricians refer women with breastfeeding problems to her.

i would have to say the best book i have on breastfeeding is:

The Ultimate breastfeeding book of answers - revised and updated version by Dr Jack Newman It is a brilliant book. I guard it withh my life!

I have previously read the easy to read sharon trotter book but feel this is for people who know nothing about breastfeeding as it is very basic.

i second mears' suggestion of Breast is Best. my mum loaned me the copy she read when she had me, and although the language is a bit dated in that edition (not sure if it's been re-published) it is a fab book!

I think the Clare Byam book is full of really terrible advice.
What to Expect in the First Year, ditto.

I would recommend Bestfeeding by Mary Renfrew

I second Dr. Jack Newman's The Ultimate Breastfeeding book of Answers.

If you like his writing style on the website, you will like his book.

Clare Byam-Cook has no idea how breastfeeding actually works and her book gives advice which is laden with misconceptions. Judging from what I have read in her book, she has not read many evidence based papers on how bf works.

One bfc posted earlier this week that she has more than once had to fix some of the mess that CBC has made with clients whom she charges a fortune to advise.

Breastfeeding became a real struggle for us at about 4 weeks -- I told my husband that I wish I understood more about the mechanics of it because I thought that that might help me figure out why things weren't working and help me sort out the (sometimes dubious sounding) advice I was getting from family and friends.

My husband brought home Breast is Best for me and for some reason I found it completely demoralizing -- like reading Gina Ford when you're up in the middle of the night because you have a sleep-resistant colicky baby. Yes, you know the baby should be sleeping, but it just won't.

It was a while ago but I seem to remember that it was heavier on the promotion of breastfeeding than the practical side of it. In retrospect I think another book would have been much more helpful -- this one just stressed me out.

Breast is Best by the Stanways enabled me to successfully bf after a depressing experience with ds1.
