Slow weight gain on formula

Hi everyone,

Just looking for a bit of advice regarding feeding and to see if anyone else has been through it as well.

My baby boy is 8 weeks old and formula fed. From day 1 I don't think he's been a massive eater but has generally got enough, about 24oz a day (weight gain intially okay)

The last two weeks though he has had 1-2 large projectile vomits nearly every day, usually in the evening. It's not every feed and it doesn't seem to bother him.
A Dr reviewed him and didn't think it was anything too sinister and I got the heath visit to come and weigh him and unfortunately he has dropped down centile wise.
She recommended Gaviscon which the GP has prescribed. He does spit up a bit but not loads and I was wondering if it would actually help at all with the vomiting.

Has anyone else been in this situation and found Gaviscon works? As his weight gain isn't great i've started to get stressed out. I cannot cope with being to "just offer him more milk" - sometimes he'll take 5oz in one go beautifully but most the time it's pretty heavy weather

Thanks in advance

Could you feed a smaller amount more often? How much and how often is he feeding?

@dementedpixie Hello!

It can really vary.

Sometimes he'll drink 4-5 ozs no problem. Sometimes I'll make that much and it'll take him over an hour. Today's itinerary has been 3oz at 03:00, 2.5oz at 7:30, 1.5oz at 10:30, 4oz at 12:30 which was vomited up and now 2oz so over all crap.

Yesterday in comparison he had 3oz at 02:00, 6oz at 07:00, 5oz at 12:00, 4oz at 16:00, 5oz at 19:00 and then 3oz at 23:00 so much better. It varies so much

Those are long gaps between feeds at 8 weeks old, my 4 month old feeds every 2-3 hours during the day. I'd try maybe 3-4 oz every 3 hours, this might help the vomiting too.

He's always had longer gaps between feeding. I've tried setting alarms and trying to get him to feed more regularly but there's no point - he just won't take it if he doesn't want it.
Prior to the vomiting his weight gain was fine. I'll see if the Gaviscon helps.
Just to add - he's a happy and bright boy otherwise and wet and dirty nappies seem fine.
