Hi everyone

I got put on antibiotics for mastitus yesterday. Took all 4 doses, and then last night noticed a lump on the other breast. Now feeding is painful on the left as well as the right. Im wondering does it take a few days for the antibiotics to kick in? The right feels a lot better today but its just a pain because now its gone to the left too

Not sure sorry OP Thanks

Could you give a BFing Helpine a call and ask for their advice?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 17/02/2020 19:22

How are you this evening @navteexo?

UsefulZombie · 17/02/2020 19:28

Apologies if I've misunderstood what you meant by 'all four doses', but I think you need a longer treatment for mastitis - IIRC, I had enough for ten days. I'd go back to your GP as soon as possible.
Hope you feel better soon. Lots of gentle heat and rest as much as you can Flowers

Hi @JiltedJohnsJulie ! Thank you for checking in with me. Im actually a lot better today! I was really concerned this morning because i couldnt bare the thought of going through all that pain again but on the other side. Luckily the pains gone down a lot, havent allowed myself to get engorged - been expressing and putting baby on me everytime i get that feeling just to avoid aggravating the situation. Thank you once again Flowers x

@UsefulZombie oh sorry, so its a week course.. 4 tablets a day. The GP said id see an improvement within a day. Thats why i was worried when i felt like it was spreading to the other side, but its seemed to have gotten a lot better. I should have been more patient. Thank you for msging! X

A 7 day course does seem a little short. According to Kellymom 10 to 14 days is more usual.

Don't be afraid to go back after a week.

Harrysmummy246 · 17/02/2020 19:52

Took a couple of days for me to start feeling better

And I was given a 7 day course - Kellymom is US based and they're a bit heavier on antibiotics for everything there
