I had had surgery last night under general anaesthetic to drain a breast abscess. I’m seeing the breast specialist tomorrow and they indicated I’ll need to decide whether or not I want to keep breastfeeding. I’m 4 months in, first baby, no previous experience of mastitis/ infection etc. Can anyone share their experience? I don’t think I could cope with this pain again, but I don’t know if it’s possible to continue (on both or even just one side) or if the risk of recurrence is too great. I feel really uninformed at the moment so it just feels very emotional and upsetting. Thanks!
