Am I going to have problems breastfeeding??

So I'm currently 31+6 weeks pregnant. Some 2 months ago I noticed my breast started leaking, a few drops almost every day.
But only one breast. The other one has done nothing.

My left breast has always been slightly bigger than the right. Never thought it would be an issue, but apparently only my left one is lactating, while the right is somehow broken?
My midwife said not to worry about it and that the right breast would catch up. But 2 months later it still hasn't.

Am I only going to be able to feed my baby from one breast?

Has anyone else experienced this and ended up being ok?

I leaked nothing from either and it all went fine. I wouldn’t have thought it was an indicator at all. Might be worth asking your midwife for some syringes though, you can store that liquid gold in the freezer in case you need it.

I don't think it's an indicator of anything

With each of mine, my left breast needed 'encouragement'. So I used an electric pump, and within a week it was producing at the same rate as the right one.

I never leaked anything before birth.

Don't worry, but do get a pump to hand as they are useful in getting your milk supply established.

(Other recommendation while I am here is Lanolin. I smothered my nipples in it and never suffered cracked nipples).

Good luck!

I had this - one boob leaked little drops out onto the inside of your bra in the last few weeks of pregnancy. It completely fascinated me!

I went on to breastfeed two DC without any problems! I am sure you’ll be the same. Good luck OP!

I was like this. Only one side leaked and I couldn't hand express anything while pregnant either. We are now almost 11 weeks in and EBF from the start!

Try not to worry Thanks

I never had any leaking before my daughter was born and had to hand express and then pump to get things going as she was 5 weeks early. Now, for some reason, the right side is more productive than the left but no problems at all with making enough milk for DD and sometimes have to pump a bit because I start getting clogged ducts if she has a night where she wakes up less.

Try not to worry - as your midwife said, it should sort itself out. Just latching your baby regularly when he/she arrives will build your supply - get the Netflix ready for some serious cluster feeding while baby's working on that!

First pregnancy I leaked from one breast from 4 months, second pregnancy, no leaking, two successfully breast fed children. Don’t worry!

You’ll be absolutely fine. Most people don’t leak until a few days after having a baby when their milk comes in so there’s plenty of time for your other breast to catch up.

Also, it’s perfectly possible to breastfeed successfully from just one breast (but you will look quite lopsided).

Thank you all, that's very reassuring!

And thank you for the tips, I was thinking about getting a hand pump to help stimulate the right side if need be. Also got the lanolin already, my friend had recommended it 🙂
