Hiya I'm new here so hoping for any help or advice I can get.

First time mum to my DS who is almost 6mths, he's been EBF since leaving hospital but was taking some formula(Aptamil)when he was born as my milk hadn't come through yet. Decided I wanted to bf until he's 6mths and then introduce formula again. Anyways tried giving him some aptamil ready made formula 2weeks ago and that did not work as he started rubbing his chin/cheeks amlost immediately then I notice rashes like hives on his cheeks chin and his face went bright red, was crying and was clearly distress I felt so bad😫 as didn't know what was happening or what to do so I called 111 for advice. They asked a few routine questions and told me I'll get a call back, in that time I BF my LO and gave lots of cuddles and within 30mins or so the rash went away. I thought it could be because I had that formula from months ago he reacted to it, but didnt want to take any chances so took him to the GP told what happen and showed pics that i took from his reaction (he's mixed) but docs could see how red his face was, was prescribed Allerief and that was it. Wanted to see if it was a one off so decided to try a different formula so tried the SMA stage 1 ready made and again he drank less than 2oz and within 2mins same thing gave him the Allerief and a feed, dab a wet flannel on his cheeks and it went within 30mins. Should I take him back to the docs as I'm not sure if he's allergic to formula or have an Intolerance to it as now I'll be starting the weaning process and not sure what else he will react to. I know this is a long post but any help or advice I'll take. Thanks.

It does sound like he is allergic to something in the formula. How is he if you eat dairy? Have you given him any foods made with cow’s milk yet like yoghurt or weetabix and milk? Did he react to those?

He's not had any reactions when I eat dairy after a feed, haven't tried him on any cows milk or anything dairy as went back to the docs they said best to avoid it for now until he's had the allergy test which is booked in March. Was eating an ice lolly fruit split (forgot the inside was made with milk) stupidly I put the ice part on his tongue (not the inside) but he still reacted to that came out in hives withing a minute or 2 later, when I check the ingredients after is says contains milk. He's now been prescribe with a special formula Aptamil pepti 1 which is whey based (he hates it and refuses to even look at the bottle) I'm hoping he'll grow out of it as gonna be so difficult when he's weaning. 🙁

Are you BFing OP? I would consider giving up all dairy for now.

There is some advice on dairy in BM on Kellymom and you can always ask on MN for suggestions of what to eat Smile

Still BF fully until he can take any formula. So here's hoping he will and soon. Thanks for that link it helped alot. Trying the Similac now still no luck as it taste fowl😣 but have to keep at it if not will have get another one. I still have a bit of dairy as it doesn't seem to bother him when he feeds. But not giving him any form of dairy for the time been.
