Breastfeeding established late at 3 months old

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with establishing breastfeeding late on? DD is 3 months old and due to a few issues (floppy larangx, bad latch amongst others) we've just started breast feeding this week but I've expressed since birth to keep my supply going. My query is how often and for how long should she be feeding? I figured the usual feeding schedules wouldn't apply seeing as she's only just worked it all out at 13 weeks!

Thanks!

No such thing as a schedule when it comes to little babies and breastfeeding - it's a feed on demand thing ime and you can never over-do it. Just feed as much as you feel like you can. As you're in a slightly different situation to most, it may be worth phoning the national breastfeeding helpline or trying a local support group if you have one for some proper support. Good luck Thanks

Thanks- I have been overthinking it I feel. I'll just feed on demand and see how we go, I'll also try to find a local group Smile

That's amazing that you've managed to get it in place now-well done for persevering! Definitely get some support x

Would second seeking out a local group. La Leche League are really supportive - we had breastfeeding support from the off but she also does things with LLL too. My LO is slightly younger than yours and I've only been fully feeding him since 9 weeks so not quite as far along as you've got. I've had a bit of an oversupply issue (still feeling pretty engorged after a few hours) which we think wasn't helped by pumping but if that happens to you, don't stress as there are things you can do to sort it out. Good luck OP
