Steriliser help!

Hi,
I have a 2 week old DS who is fed pumped breastmilk. I have a Nuby steam sterilisier and I cant tell if it's rubbish or if the water in my area is just hard as nails!

The base plate got burned pretty quickly and it needs cleaning after pretty much every single use (and exclusive pumping means I use it a lot!).
I'm wondering if I should just get a different steriliser, or use a different type, or if this is normal for a hard water area and I'll just run into the same problem.

I fill the steriliser with filtered water but it barely makes a difference! Please advise if you can- the base plate is nearly black!

Hi OP I pumped exclusively for 3 months with my DD and I used the tommee tippee closer to nature steam steriliser and obviously I still had to clean the plate fairly often as you do use it so much more feeding that way but not as much as you are saying you have to do yours, so you could give that one a go. Also have you contacted Nuby and told them this is happening as it may just be a faulty product and you wouldn't want to buy a brand new one if you can get it replaced for free, especially as your DS is only 2 weeks old x

I find cold water sterilisation much easier with my pump as you just make 1 batch of solution per 24 hours and take stuff in and out as needed.

Have you definitely put enough water in? The only time i burnt my steriliser was from not adding enough water...
