I’m coming up to the magic 6 WEEKS post partum. I’ve been exclusively breastfeeding and heard things “get easier” at 6 weeks. How and what exactly eases? TIA X

Well your feeding should be established, you night feeds feeling like your are recovering from the birth (although most likely sleep deprived) and baby might be starting to fall into a little bit of a routine.

You are about to hit a 'feeding frenzy' patch. The baby will want to bf continuously(I felt inadequate and that ,despite all evidence to the contrary, though it must be because I wasn't producing enough milk.
After a few day it settled,I had been stimulated to produce more milk, babies stomach was a bit bigger and she settled to a 3-4 hour feeding pattern. She was also awake more and smiling which was a high boost.
Good luck and enjoy the smiles, they are manic.

Magic I meant though some of the laughter is manic.

I hit six weeks yesterday and have to say I've been having a great day so far. DS slept for 3x 2.5 hour blocks last night between 9pm and 7am in his next2me/safely in our bed. For the 4am feed I got him latched on in bed with just the night light and DH was snoring next to us and I actually caught myself thinking well, this is pretty lovely and cosy.

This morning I fed him at 9am, he had a bit of playtime with DH and then I popped him down in his carrycot, put it on top of the pram and went to meet a friend for coffee and a walk around the park. DS napped in the pram for a couple of hours and when he woke up we just nipped into the friend's house for a feed and a change - he went just over 3 hours between feeds and then fell asleep in the pram again for another good nap on the way home.

None of that looked remotely possible a couple of weeks ago! It seems to be a combination of DS going slightly longer between feeds, DS sleeping slightly better in places that are not exclusively my chest, and DS and I both getting more confident with latching and feeding in different positions and settings.

Oh and my nipples seem to have hardened and/or my technique has improved so that nipples no longer tender and painful and cracked.

I'm sure there are many, many bumps in the road to come but it does feel like it's come together a bit at six weeks Smile
