Blocked duct?

I'm currently breastfeeding 7 week old ds3. I've breastfed all 3 dc and been lucky enough to never even have so much as a sore nipple but today the side and underneath of my breast feels really bruised, as though I'm engorged when I'm not. I can't feel any lump but it's very tender to touch. It's also really painful when I'm feeding, particularly when the milk lets down. Is this a blocked duct? The beginnings of mastitis? Does it hurt to feed when it's just a blocked duct?

I've tried to massage the breast when feeding ds today but so far no relief. I'm currently sitting with one of the lansinoh heating pads on it and its helping with the pain but still hurts just to brush my hand over the area.

Have you read the info on Kellymom? It's pretty good at describing the symptoms and what action to take.

I had read the info but it doesnt mention pain when feeding for a blocked duct. I suppose I was just hoping that a few people might come along and say they had had it and it isnt necessarily mastitis. I have been on antibiotics almost constantly for various different things since ds3 was born and will be gutted to have to have them again but hey ho

Have you tried one of the BFing Helplines Cebb? A BFC should be able to help you -well, they'll definitely know what they're on about, unlike me --

I had similar - like you I couldn't feel a lump but part of my breast was very red and bruised-feeling. Managed to clear it by applying heat before feeds and getting DS to feed from different angles.
