13 week old doesn't EVER seem hungry?!

I'm interested to find out if anyone else has had a similar experience.

My 13 week old son, who weighed 7lb when he was born, will not drink more than 4oz per bottle. On the odd occasion he may do 5oz but that's a rarity!

We feed him every four hours and the average he will drink is around 4oz. If we feed him three hourly he will only drink 2 to 3 ounces!

The biggest bottle he takes in a 24-hour period is at 3 am where he can happily drain 6 ounces in five minutes!

The rest of the time he shows very little interest in feeding. Sometimes he will scream the house down like he's starving before the four hour mark and then drink 2 ounces and then refuse to take any more.

It's extremely frustrating as I have another son who is 20 months old so don't really have time to spend 45 minutes trying to get him to drink a bottle.

Also know that I have not a chance of him sleeping through the night until he ups his daily food intake.

At his last weigh in he was over 10lb, so gaining weight, on 25th centile and he produces plenty of wet and dirty nappies.

I know some children are just picky eaters but I never experienced anything like this with my first son who was born at 4lb 6oz and was inhaling a 7oz bottle by the time he was four weeks old!

7 floz at 4 weeks does seem like a lot. Do you think that your first might have been "catching up" due to his low birth weight and this hunger could be skewing your view this time around?

If he's 10lb he should be having 25 floz in 24 hours. Unfortunately, as long as he's getting that, there is very little you can do.

I think we may have had a brain wave today - changed the milk from Aptamil Comfort to the regular stuff, which is much thinner and we're up to 5oz a feed now. Fingers crossed it's the change we've needed!

That seems completely normal to me. My daughter is 6 months and has 5oz or 6oz every 3 hours but she was on 4oz every 4 hours for months.

Thanks all for your replies. We seem to have turned a corner by changing the milk. Long may it continue!
