Baby cries after feeding

Hello! My 10 month old son always cries after feeding and am not sure why! I thought he may still be hungry, but when I give him extra he brings it back up! Does anyone gave any advice please x

Could be reflux. Try and sit them upright when feeding and for 20/30mins after to allow it to digest.
If you notice though he stops taking as much or fewer wet nappies get to a dr.

He has a good appetite and always has his mouth open for more food... only cries hystericaly when there is no more!!

Wind? Do you still rub his back ? I always had to with D's.

Yes i do wind him still, but i don't think he cries because of that... he starts to cry when he realises its the last spoonful!!!

Maybe he just enjoys feeding so much he doesn't want to be finished? Try distracting him straight after the meal with an interesting thing to hold/look at/play with.

I could cry when I finish a meal too , especially if it's really nice

@FurrySlipperBoots I thought this too, so am going to try and gradually keep increasing his food to see if he stops crying.... but how much is too much? Also does this mean that if he eats large quantities of food at breakfast, lunch and dinner, he doesn't need his snacks in between?

He'll be pretty self regulating at 10 months, keep on with his milk and keep introducing food,he'll eat what he wants to. Some days he might eat more and some days less.

Are we talking milk feeds or solids here? If it's solids and your spoon feeding, perhaps have some finger foods on the table for him as well to play with after he's finished eating.

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor I shall persevere, but think may have come to the conclusion that he doesn't know when he is full!!!

It sounds like you are talking about solid foods and not milk. I wouldn’t feed him, I would let him feed himself and he will regulate his intake himself.

@Fatted He breastfeeds when he awakes in the morning and then is spoonfed solids for the rest of the day - will try finger foods to distract him

He only has one milk feed a day?

He should still be getting a decent amount of milk so I wonder if he doesn’t need another milk feed or two if he’s only having one?

I’d definitely just let him feed himself. You could pre-load spoons for him although he can probably just have normal family meals without help at this stage.

It's a long time since I weaned debut it was always 'did under one is just for fun'- had that changed.

I think at 10 months or should still be lots of bottles/ breast milk and small amounts of finger foods/ bit of mush shouldn't it?

Hi OP, if you think it's because he wants more milk or solids, maybe just give him more and see how you go?

I have a lovely guzzler of a baby who has always eaten and drunk more than the recommended or average amounts of milk/solids and I really used to fret about overfeeding him to the point where I'd give him what seemed like a lot and he'd still be crying and I'd just sort of panic thinking he'd never stop if I carried on!

My husband is fortunately far more laid back (and hasn't driven himself insane looking at averages) and took the view that he'd probably stop when he'd had enough so just kept feeding him. Sure enough, he did have a stopping point, it was just way above what it "should" have been and we got to know his normal.

He's tracked his weight percentile since birth and looks perfectly normal (if long). He's incredibly active compared to a lot of his peers which may explain it.

Maybe just give the simplest answer a go first and keep feeding him when he seems hungry and see if you can find his natural stopping point?

@NotYourHun He has two milk feeds, morning before breakfast and again before bedtime. He is not quite there yet with regards to feeding himself - at what age did yours feed themselves without help?

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor He has a morning milk feed, then breakfast, lunch and dinner of pureed/mushed up food and an evening milk feed, with snacks in between.... I know parents of other babies of a similar age who give them whole foods to chew on, but am not confident to try that at this stage.... plus he only has two teeth which have only just come through!!

He has hard gums lack of teeth won't stop him .
Try soft things he can pick up himself- bread,scrambled egg that's not too soft. Not bananas though as they are a choking risk,keep mashing them. Do you offer him a loaded spoon of puree,ds used to like that.

@AxeOfKindness When I gave given him more, he brings it all up, but maybe that is the only solution, hoping that he then grows out of it eventually!

I did too follow the recommended guidelines and worried about overfeeding, but quickly realised that in my case this wasn't the case, as all babies are different! Did your baby regurgitate alot after feeding when you increased the quantities?

But I think you are right, I need to find his natural stopping point.....

@ladybird55 we did BLW so I never really spoon fed him. He started using a spoon on his own at about 7 or 8 months months for things like yoghurt and was fairly reliable and didn’t need help loading it by about 11 months. He’s starting to use a spoon or fork for most foods now at 16 months as he hates getting his hands dirty.

I’d definitely start to let him explore textures and self feeding a bit more at his age. He might also need an extra bottle in the day if he’s not eating much. Most of his calories should still come from milk.

No, to be fair my DS didn't used to regurgitate everything. He did used to bring bits up with burps and occasionally vomit a bit more than that which could seem like a lot at the time but was definitely not the whole feed.

Is he definitely the whole feed he's bringing up? That sounds potentially biblical! Perhaps try him in a different position so his tummy isn't compressed?
