Why is my baby always Hungary. I feed him 6oz (180ml) every 3 hours as he screams the house down if I am late. Some time he will sleep for 5/6 hours at night but not always. I have tried hungrier baby formula but he is no different. I am doing something wrong?

Is he draining the bottles?
Is he bringing any back up?

I'd feed more regularly or up the feed, you might only need to uoone or two feeds

my daughter eats every 2 and half hours like clockwork never changed Never given hungry baby formula as i heard it makes them uncomfortable and cranky.

when she was about 3 months she slept through the night but she still ate every 2 and half.Even through weaning but i guess she throws most of her food anyway.Trying to get them to feed themselves can be trying

He may need to feed more frequently than every 3 hours. At that age you can just feed on demand, watch out for his hunger cues and when he looks hungry give him the bottle. If he drains it, offer a bit more. You might find he goes a bit longer if hes getting fed more, and getting his feed as soon as hes hungry.

He’s hungry because he’s tiny and growing loads Smile

Is giving hunger signs more often that every 3 hours? Does he do little things to show when he’s starting to get snacky? My DD used to stick her tongue out which was always a sign and gave me a chance to feed her before she was crying. Is he finishing his bottles? Lots of wet nappies?

Sleeping for 5 or 6 hours at 7 weeks is a lot. It’s normal and natural for newborns to wake often for milk or cuddles. I’m sure you’re doing a great job, remember you’re still getting to know each other. Feeding often is a good thing, he’s building his strength up.

He drains about 1 in 10 bottles. He only some times sleep through the night. Last night he woke every 3 hours. There are no signs. He just wakes up starts screaming and move his mouth around trying to look for a bottle.

He has an umbilical hernia. Does this effect the digestion at all?

He sounds completely normal to me. My DS fed every 2.5 to 3hours on the dot til he was about 6 months old! Hes tiny and growing loads. He also had an umbilical hernia which sorted itself out by 4 months old.
You're doing everything right! It's tiring but totally normal!

Sounds normal, feed on demand. DD3 is similar age, she will do a long stretch overnight, then go 3 hours up until late afternoon when she really wants to be on and off breastfeeding.

When he drains the bottle I'd see if he will take some more, just an extra oz. Does he view his hands. Can you dream feed just before the 3 hours so he's not waking up fully screaming?

rosydreams · 07/01/2020 07:59

yeah what i did was start prepping mines bottle for the 2 and a half hour mark.Nudge her cheek with the bottle and that usually got her interested

Harrysmummy246 · 07/01/2020 15:09

It is perfectly normal for a new born to wake for feeds and need to feed more often than every 3 hours.

You're getting even some 5-6 hour stretches, that's amazing for a baby still only half way through 4th trimester
