First time mum breast feeding

Hi All,

Just out of curiosity, my DD is 7 days old and I’ve breast fed her since I had her.
Today has been so difficult as I feel I can’t keep her off the boob is this normal?
I feel like I feed her and put her down and she is unhappy and wants more.. could this be down to supply?

Normal, in my experience. There will be many days of cluster feeding to come! My advice would be to settle in somewhere comfy for the next 6 weeks of doing nothing much except feeding baby, going for the odd pram walk and enjoying a lot of box sets! Congratulations on your new baby

Nothing wrong with your supply your baby is growing fast and putting in an advance order on your milk! Make sure the latch is deep so you don't get sore nipples, plenty of snacks and water and something good to watch/ read and just feed whenever she wants. Keep going your doing great!

It's so normal! I felt like DC3 was glued onto me for weeks at that age. Baby is building up your supply and tummy is so tiny at that point can only hold a tiny bit of milk so little and often. You're doing great!

Very normal! She’s working hard to increase your supply as she grows. It’s not an indication of poor supply.

Congratulations! In my experience, this is very normal! Babies have massive growth spurts in these early days and it can feel like they are on the boob all the time - don’t forget that it’s a comforting place for them too, as well as food! You will have plenty of milk, as long as baby is producing plenty wet and some dirty nappies.

Congratulations on your baby! You’re doing brilliantly, feeding your little one is your biggest job, try not to give yourself anything else to do and make sure you’re getting well fed and having loads of water, it’s hungry thirsty work. A nice description I read was your daughter is putting her order in for the next few days. She’s used to being fed by you with no thought or effort and now she’s out in the world she’s got a lot of growing to do. She’s not only feeding for food but all her drinks and snacks. It helps to think of everything you eat and drink in a day - it’s probably not 3 meals and nothing else - and think she’s getting every single thing from you. She’s also getting all her soothing and comfort from you, your smell and your heartbeat. You’re her whole world. The thought can be slightly terrifying but it’s also incredibly special and these weeks will feel long but hopefully peaceful.

Even with a good latch your nipples can feel a bit tired and worn so stock up on lansinoh cream and use it as often as you like. It’s completely safe to feed your baby straight after as well.

Flapjacks. Pasta. Litres and litres of water in a good bottle. Protein. Carbs. Sofa. Bed. TV. Phone to hand.

I have huge boobs and my DD had a tiny head and I felt like I’d never be able to feed with one hand as it took both to keep her on. Within weeks I was popping her on without much thought and now she’s older I can literally feed hands free lying down with a book in my hand. If you’d told me that in the first few weeks I’d have told you you were mad and to bugger off

It gets so much easier and you’re doing a fantastic job. Put everything else on hold and hunker down. You just had a baby, rest is good.
