Sick baby. Will my supply suffer?

I'd really like some advice/past experiences please, not sure if I'm over stressing.

My baby is 5.5 months old and EBF. He's come down with a bad cold and for the first couple of days he was feeding little and often including through the night (before being ill he was still feeding 2/3 times in the night). He must now be more bunged up though. Yesterday he fed less than normal and overnight he didn't feed at all. I tried him with saline drops to help clear his nose at 4am but he still didn't want to feed, just grumbled about life very loudly. Since we've been up he's fed off each side but for much less time than normal. He's now sleeping but normally he would feed to sleep and stay latched for most of his nap, this time he didn't want to feed at all and just fell asleep next to me.

If reduced feeding continues how quickly could it affect my supply? I'm still at my parents post Christmas and don't have my pump with me but returning home tonight, should I start pumping around feeds/in the night?

I'm not too worried about him yet. He's producing enough wet nappies and is pretty happy if I'm not wiping his nose/trying to get him to feed.

I haven't introduced solids yet but will start when this cold clears but that won't make up for any loss of milk supply as it'll take a while for him to eat enough.

Thanks

I had exactly this scenario a couple of weeks ago with my 5 month old and was also worried about my supply suffering. I did express a couple of times a day, just for two days and then babe's appetite picked up again and all was well. I suspect it would have been absolutely fine even if I hadn't expressed, but it helped me relax about it. Do you have a humidifier? I have one on in the bedroom over night and find this helpful.

@Witching that's really reassuring, thanks for replying. Glad your LO is better now and feeding well.

I have a humidifier at home so I'll get that on tonight.

At 5.5 months your supply will be very well established. You'll be fine, just make sure he stays hydrated Smile
