Severe mastitis and cyst - help

Hello, I have had my breast drained as much as the pathologist could drain and told there was mostly milk blocking the duct, but a slight tinge of green (of course I realised it was an infection). I rang my doctor whom I have been seeing for the past 8 weeks (on 3 occasions) and he said pathology have not sent any notes of concern. I eventually went to the medical centre near my home to find that I have severe mastitis and the cyst seems to have returned to the original size of a golf ball. How often should I try and feed my 8 week old on the same breast each feed to try and drain the blockage? It's getting easier now the crack is almost healed, but I feel quite tired and achy still.

No aadvice but I have a similar problem 9 months down the line. I have been taking anti biotics for mastitus but my boob is still very sore, red and has a huge lump in it. So hopefully any words of wisdom you get will help me too. I've been taking ibruprofen which helps a bit and blasting my boob in the shower. Hope you feel better soon

Are you on antibiotics at the moment? I would go back to the doctors to check the cyst & ask for antibiotics or ask if the ones you're taking are ok.
Drink plenty of fluid & feed more from the bad side than the good and try stroking the breast down towards the nip/massage the blocked milk ducts, double check this info with your doctor though asap.
My midwife said (& it may be different in your area but..) if you're suffering with mastitus it's a bit of a priority with the doctors as you need the antibiotics, I don't know a lot about cysts, I'd get it all checked out to be on the safe side.
Good luck.

Thanks for the words of support so far. I am on antibiotics now and have been for almost 3 days. I feel a lot better than I did, but my boob is swollen and tender to touch...feeding isn't too bad, but I do get anxious if I need to feed bub in public from the 'bad' side. I was told to go back to the doctor in 3 days if there is no change...hopefully the antibiotics are working, as the lump seems to be not as solid and I can express more easily into a pump than previously (very carefully though and only to drain it properly). I also start mother's club each Tuesday and may learn some other tips...stay tuned!

Hello
Just a quick update on how things are going.
I had my breast drained twice with a fine needle...the second time has given me a lot of relief...I was referred to a breast surgeon specialist. I needed to stop feeding from the 'bad' side until the infection had settled/cleared and am on pencillin based antibiotics. Still along way to go, but am back to solely breast feeding after a few harrowing days.
I hope this helps others who may be unsure about what to do - I pestered my GP and was referred for advice and treatment (better late than never).
