8 week old suddenly projectile vomiting

Piplette · 21/12/2019 23:19

My DD has just turned 8 weeks.

She's always been a good feeder and rarely sick although has suffered from colic and I suspect some mild silent reflux.

Today however she has projectile vomited after almost every feed. Sometimes it is immediate others an hour or so after.

She seems fine in herself but I'm surprised by how suddenly this has come on.

Is it something I should contact the doctor about? Or is it just a phase.

My main concern is around weight gain as she seems to be bringing up a lot (although I know it often looks like more than it actually is).

We use gripe water or infacol for the colic and have done with no issues since she was born.

Any thoughts welcome!

Breastfed or bottled fed?

babychampam · 21/12/2019 23:27

If it really is projectile and it's come on suddenly I'd get her checked out.

My ds developed pyloric stenosis at around the same age.

He was projectile vomiting after every feed and stopped opening his bowels as regularly as usual.

My other ds had reflux so we were used to vomit but this was something else, especially as it comes on suddenly.

With such a small baby I’d contact the doctor in case it’s a vomiting bug.

Piplette · 21/12/2019 23:28

Bottle. No change in formula although just changed to anti colic bottles a few days ago.

I think I'd probably contact doctor. Were bottles fully sterilized? Did you use hot water with formula etc (ie nothing different?)

Piplette · 21/12/2019 23:33

Bottles sterilised as normal.

I use the perfect prep.machine to make bottles so no change.

Shes had 2 feeds today where she wasn't sick but just there she took one ounce and brought it all up again.

Shes still smiling away and actually showing less colic symptoms.

Will contact GP first thing Monday unless things worsen and I'll call NHS 24.

I remember my eldest would have occasional bouts of vomiting but never consistently after almost every feed.

If my 8 week old was vomitting after every feed i would get them to a doctor asap.

I wouldn't be waiting two days

Piplette · 21/12/2019 23:41

It's not every feed. And it's one day, not two.

Is it milk she's bringing up?

Piplette · 21/12/2019 23:46

Yes milk mixed when saliva/mucus which makes it hard to judge just how much she's bringing up.

MustardScreams · 21/12/2019 23:51

I’d ditch the perfect prep, there is no proof they come up to temperature and for long enough to kill bacteria in the milk power.

And call 111. A sudden vomiting even without temp etc needs to be checked out by a dr

DecemberSnow · 22/12/2019 00:02

It is two days OP... today and tomorrow till Monday.

Thats two days

Your child... You come on for advice and people give you it

INeedNewShoes · 22/12/2019 00:10

I wouldn’t wait until Monday either. If you think she’s only kept 2 feeds down today then she’s in danger of becoming dehydrated.

nocoolnamesleft · 22/12/2019 01:39

An 8 week old baby suddenly started vomiting forcefully after nearly every feed? Definitely wouldn't leave that until Monday.

christma5 · 22/12/2019 06:56

Just go with your gut. This can be normal for my DD, she can overstuff herself or if she gets wind trapped it can come up and produce projectile vomit. Does she seem well apart from this?

hopefulhalf · 22/12/2019 07:00

I am a doctor please seek mexical attention for this. I would hope you would be seen quickly in A&E with such a young baby. Tell them you are concerned about
