CBD oil and breastfeeding?

Has anyone got any experience of using CBD oil while breastfeeding, or been given any advice from doctors?

My daughter is still exclusively breastfed apart from one half bottle a day of formula, which she has before bed. She's six months. Recently I've experienced bouts of insomnia, which has resulted in anxiety. My doctor prescribed drowsy antihistamines, which haven't helped. I don't want to take sleeping pills, but I do want to take the edge off my anxiety, as it's a cycle and I just need to break it. My friend gave me some CBD oil, which she swears by, but the internet is inconclusive at best in terms of whether or not it's OK to use!

You don't want to take something which has been extensively tested in clinical trials and will be prescribed/ monitored but you're happy to use something a friend swears by but there is no evidence or regulation for?

I wouldn't

It may be that you need to further discuss with the GP whether it's anxiety causing insomnia or vice versa

That would be a really stupid thing to do and I can't believe you're even considering it.

Agree with PP who says licensed pharmaceuticals have been tested to the nth degree to make sure they're safe. CBD oil is a fad and a con and can be made on anything! Don't use it

Thanks all. My concern with sleeping pills is a bit personal. My DH dad became addicted to them and so he's very anxious about having them in the house. I'm also concerned that I wouldn't wake and be alert enough if my DD woke. Likewise the antihistamines made me feel weird but didn't actually help me sleep.

I know there is some question over effectiveness of CBD as with all herbal remedies, but I did try some in the end and felt it took the edge off. I think my insomnia is anxiety driven so even If is a placebo it helped me get to sleep - although not last night 😬 I take a few drops once she's in bed, about 6-8 hours before her next feed.

Part of the issue I think is that there's just a real lack of testing when it comes to pharmaceuticals and BF, as there is with lots of female-centered medical things.
