Suddenly a billion night feeds

My dd is 5 months now, exclusively breastfed, and suddenly she’s started feeding so many times during the night. She got into a wonderful routine which meant she went to bed at 8 and let me get a full 6 hours solid sleep before she woke for a feed around 2 and then woke for more every 2-3 hours after then until morning. She was starting to even skip the 2am feed sometimes as well.

But now it’s all gone to pot, I don’t know why, but now she’s suddenly started feeding every 2 hours from when I put her to bed, and she’s having a full feed every waking it seems as well not just a little nibble. Her bedtime routine is the same and I try putting her back to sleep with other means but she’s rooting every time and won’t settle until I feed her. I really don’t know what to do, I miss my sleep, please help!

Probably a growth spurt, or developmental leap. They wait until you’re happy with their lovely routine and then shake it up.

My baby is 8 months, he slept like a dream from 2-4 months and it has just got better and reduced to one wake up again.

Can you set the bed up to co-sleep and “breast sleep”. If your baby wants to cluster feed and you can feed on your side this can really help.

There’s a massive growth spurt at around 17 weeks so if it passes in a couple of weeks it’s that. If not it might be the sleep regression.

Does she feed to sleep?

Probably a growth spurt. You were very lucky to have had 6 hour stretches from such a young baby. It will gradually get better again.

Following with interest as my DS is exactly the same! So tired. Am hoping it is a passing phase...

This exact thing happened to me. There is a growth spurt, a mental leap AND a sleep regression around this time. Utter hell.

My baby is EBF and I was also waking every 2 hours, but my wake up pattern before was identical to yours. Honestly I could have written your post myself, it’s funny.

I don’t know how you feel about it but I’ve always bed shared. At times like this it really helps because you can just leave your boob out and sorta plop your boob back in their gob without waking too much.

Otherwise it does end. Eventually! My boy is 7 months tomorrow and he got back to his good sleep routine a few weeks back.
