Baby suddenly feeding more

So I'm breastfeeding with use of nipple shields mostly. My husband looks after my boy for a couple of hours a day when I get some sleep, and il uses formula then so my boy is mostly on breastmilk. So far I've not really had any issue with too little milk, leaking a few times at night and having very full breasts. Soon usually feeds for half an hour on each breast, twenty minutes fervently and then maybe up to an hour comfort feeding.

Yesterday however my son suddenly began to feed very actively for half an hour on one breast, then when I swapped to the next, actively for half an hour on the next. My breasts have not felt heavy and full for a full 24 hours now, and I'm concerned I won't be able to keep up with his needs.

Should my body adapt to his sudden increase in appetite? Has anyone else experienced this?

Him feeding more should signal to your body that they need to produce more milk. What age is he?
