5 week old baby not taking as much milk

Hi, my little boy is 6 weeks old tomorrow. We feed on demand and he's regularly been taking 3-4oz at every feed until about 4 weeks. Then he was finishing the bottle so we started to put in 5oz and on the odd occasion he'd finish 5oz or drink around 4.5.

The past week he's only been taking around 3-3.5oz at every feed and we're unsure as to why. He falls asleep a lot during feeds and we have to change him halfway through to wake him up. I thought this may be to do with the teat being too slow however I've gone to medium flow and we're still having the same issue.

He has typically been taking around 2.5oz before we wind him. We regret taking the bottle out every time as once it's out, it's hard to get back in. Getting the rest down him is a struggle and he then seems uninterested. Sometimes he does seem interested and moves his mouth around for the bottle... only to just let it lay in his mouth.

Does anyone know why this might be happening? I'm worried as I don't want him to go hungry or for him to lose any weight.

I don't know, but maybe he just went through a growth spurt? And now he's easing off? Because that just seems to me like he's full. Maybe just go for an extra weigh (can you? Our local nurse always let me do that when I was worried) and then you can see how his weight is.

End of a growth spurt possibly, or could be he’s ready to go up to the next sized bottle teat- if he’s losing interest it might be because the milk isn’t coming quickly enough. It sounds relatively normal but as he’s so tiny I’d take him to get weighed and check in with the HV at the next clinic.

It's strange as sometimes when he takes only a little amount, he will wake again 1.5-2 hours later crying because he's hungry again! When normally he would take 4+ oz and go atleast 4 hours between feeds x

Snack feeding. If he's eating more often, then he should be getting the same amount over a day?
