Am going to france next week to stay with the inlaws. does anyone know if it is ok to boil the tapwater there and then use it give my 6 month old water to drink and also can i use the water for formula feeds? (if i decide to use formula while im there). thought i had read something about not using mineral water to boil as the minerals arent suitable for babies.

you can but mineral water pour bebe for paediatrics's use sold in 750ml bottles most pharmacies just make up the formula with the bottled water, no need to heat just use room temp hth

o think i also read mineral water unsuitable cant remember details tho

for a 6 month old I wouldn't even bother boiling the tapwater for drinks of water, just give it straight from the tap. Cooled boiled water is fine for formula feeds. I don't think you are meant to boil mineral water, IIRC evian is fine for making up formula.

thanks. still not sure though, do i buy the bottled water from a chemist here and take with me or shall i buy evian over there and then boil?

It is the too high concentration of some minerals that make some mineral waters unsuitable for children. They normally write if it is ok for babies on the bottle. There should not be more than 10mg nitrate/litre water for babies to drink.

I used to buy Humana Babywater, don't know if you get it in France.

no not mineral water from here, the pediatric mineral water sold in france, no boiled mineral water evian whatever

only the pharmacy purchased specifically for paeds ready to serve - don't boil it not necessary

also there will be some kind of EEC symbol on label to indicate for baby use

agree with Scottishmummy, don't bother boiling the mineral water, it's fine as is.

I gave my dd1 bottled water to drink in France and I boiled the tap water for formula feeds for my dd2 who was 3 months in June just gone. The water is fine to drink in France, it just has more kalk in it than some other countries. I live in switzerland and the water is fine to drink but I use a filter all the time for our drinking water. If you wanted you could take a water filter jug with you on hol if you prefer and then would have no need for bottled water.

Do you boil that tap water in the UK for your FF?

Boiled tap water in France gave my LO the worst gas! Depends on the baby I think. Hope mine gets used to it as his grandparents live there
