6 week old suddenly refusing bottle

Hi,

First post - go gentle!

She's been combo fed from birth, I give her a bottle of expressed milk at the late feed. However from 5 weeks old she has started to reject the bottle.

She'll take 50ml or so, but once she's had a burping and ready to resume, she starts to fuss, won't latch on the bottle and becomes irritated.

We've tried warming the teat, warming the milk (above room temp), tried multiple teats etc. Even tried bait and switch with a dummy which works to some extent.

But we're at our wits end. I want to be able to help and feed our daughter and it gives my wife a break from the feeding routine too.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Mine totally refused from 3 weeks and we never managed to get them to go back to the bottle. We didn't push it too much though, looking back, I wish we'd tried a bit longer as it would have given me more of a break.

Try La Leche League for some tips - www.llli.org/breastfeeding-info/bottles/

Good luck!

Without wishing to alarm you OP this also happened to me (although with an EBF baby) and like the PP my son never went back to it. If was a total PITA.

No advice but sympathy! Actually, my one piece of advice would be to try not to stress about it as I am sure the babies pick up our desperation and stress to get them to take the bottle GrinShock

Thanks guys.

Yeh we’re sticking at it, trying to remain calm throughout. There’s good days and bad, so I’m hoping she grows to accept it again once she realises it’s all good!

Ds suddenly rejected the bottle at 4 months. We just kept persevering. At 5 months he was back on it - very stressful month though!
