Formula fed baby - advice needed

Help! My baby is 6 weeks old and was feeding every 4hrs but for last 2 weeks it’s been every 2 hours (5oz) like clockwork!
He will wake up when at home (occasionally he has gone 3hrs at night or during the day if asleep) but when we are out and about he is asleep and therefore goes for longer periods. Not only is it costing a fortune I am worried I am doing something wrong and causing long term damage (like him becoming overweight) by me feeding him but he cry’s so much and we have tried everything from being taken in car to baths to try and distract him from having a feed but it just doesn’t work and he is sucking his hand and having the bottle when given.
There has been times recently usually in the evening when he has his 5oz and even an hour later is showing signs of being hungry and on occasion when I have given in he has taken the whole bottle so must be hungry??
Any help or advice greatly received-
Love - A worried first time mum x

This sounds perfectly normal to me. Babies feed and sleep more when they're going through a growth spurt - I'm betting you'll notice how much bigger hes got soon x

Silly question I’m sure but have you tried giving him more at a feed 6oz? If he’s draining the bottle? By 6weeks we were feeding ds 8oz bottles (taking around 7oz unless he was having a spurt then they were gone) he’s not over weight 50th for height and weight n has stayed on 3 hourly feeds through the day he’s 6months now so he’s starting to go maybe 3 1/2 hours 😂.

I listened to my granny not the gp with him, if he’s hungry he’s hungry.

I might not remember this quite right but I'm sure my son was on around 30oz per day by that age, increasing to 36. If they are hungry they will eat. They say you cant over feed a baby, if its too much baby will bring it up. We always used just over 1 tub of formula per week If that helps you. Try increasing to 6oz to see if baby goes longer between feeds. There is also a growth spurt around now.

As others have said definitely try adding an oz to his bottles! My HV told me that once my baby had been draining bottles for 3 or 4 days consistently then they needed another oz adding. Some times he would stay on the same amount for a couple months, sometimes only a couple of weeks. Babies are good at regulating how much they need!

Wow thank you so much guys, I instantly feel better and that I may not be doing anything wrong! I will try adding more and see how we get on. Xx

I was worried to when DS did this. Growth spurt - mine was hungry every hour too. Now mine is 5 months and feeds every 3.5/4 hours.
