What does your toddler call breastmilk?

Just melting at my ds (16m) word for a feed, saying in a disgruntled voice ‘dood da’ and then giving a little happy chuckle when I get ready to feed him.

Very soft and unmumsnetty thread but what do yours call a feed?

I only fed for a year and DS didn't talk until gone 3 (doesn't shut up now!!) but he used to do a grabby motion with both hands, like twinkle twinkle little star actions. Was super cute!

RebornFlame · 06/09/2019 22:13

mite I love miljska, has a classy ring to it!!

I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you Flowers

Mook at the moment but she's only 14 months. Its mostly pulling my top and vigorous nodding.

Diorissimo1985 · 06/09/2019 22:16

Mine calls it "no-nos" which is strange as I never say no to her feeding!

Coldhandscoldheart · 06/09/2019 22:16

Meeeeyulk! Definitely a two syllable word. And then (appropriately) ‘Udder one!’

TheOrigFV45 · 06/09/2019 22:17

I think they just called it milk until they started having cows milk from a beaker and then I encouraged them to call in Mummy Milk and Beaker Milk.

They are 10 and 20 now......treasured times.

Jamhandprints · 06/09/2019 22:19

@baabaalittlesheep that's great!
Maybe you sometimes said "do you want it?" When offering? Lol!
Reminds me of DS1 and his "wizzy" (dummy) that I was always crawling round searching for saying "where is it, where is it?" Which he heard as "wizzy, wizzy"

Sandsnake · 06/09/2019 22:20

‘Mama Go’. We never referred to it as anything other than ‘milk’ but he used it as a command from 14 months or so (basically he was telling me to ‘go’ as in to start the milk 😂). He then started using it as a noun and so it became Mama Go. Little weirdo. He’s nearly four now and hasn’t fed for over a year but still refers to it as that, so think it may end up being passed on to DC2, who I’m currently pregnant with!

Thanks Reborn, just one of those things. I was very young, had no support or guidance at all and gave it my best shot, but ended up in hospital with mastitis and a 10cm abscess which had to be surgically drained. It left so much damage and scar tissue they advised me if I had another baby to bottle feed. I think if was older I might have questioned that advice, and probably given it a go with DS.

All these stories of other babies adorable names for breastmilk make me smile though Smile

dannydyerismydad · 06/09/2019 22:20

Side!

I guess he had heard me muttering which side he had last. So he started asking for side.

RebornFlame · 06/09/2019 22:22

That sound horrendous. As if new mums don’t have enough to deal with! You had all of that as well Sad

These names are making me ahh and cracking me up.

Bubba and Bubba Side for the other one!

Mitebiteatnite · 06/09/2019 22:23

Oh I also knew a 2 year old with fantastic speech, who would finish whatever food he was eating at dinner and say 'I'll have that boob now' Grin

Lizsmum · 06/09/2019 22:26

Suckies

Love51 · 06/09/2019 22:26

My pfb had 'side' as well! As in 'do you want the other side?'
PSB had mummy milk, to differentiate with what pfb had in the day, which was cup milk. It seemed cuter at the time, now I realise that my kids needed to differentiate me from crockery!

Moreanonymousme · 06/09/2019 22:28

I get "booies now mummy" and then "other booie" when he's finished on the first one!

Bitchfeatures · 06/09/2019 22:29

Another 'Mulk' or 'Mulkie' here,
He's 2.5 now but when he was a bit younger he called it Mam-mam-ma, that was adorable!

baabaalittlesheep · 06/09/2019 22:31

@Jamhandprints that makes sense but I'm not sure if I ever did? I keep trying to think what I might have said but to be honest I don't think I ever discussed it much, just sort of offered the boob to her

Listening to the "side" stories I wonder if there is a word like "it" I've been using?

I keep responding by saying "do you mean milk" and she says "yes yes" so maybe she just pronounces milk as tit... maybe that's the origin of the word 🤣

3boysandabump · 06/09/2019 22:34

My youngest is only 13 months old and not speaking yet but I could have sworn he squealed 'titties' the other day when I got them out 🙈😂

mwmw · 06/09/2019 22:34

Aww this thread is cute.
I've been worrying that I'm going to be feeding my baby for longer than 6 months as she absolutely refuses a bottle no matter what we try! I just assumed that was the given amount of time you feed but this has put my mind at ease just before bed :)

RebornFlame · 06/09/2019 22:40

mwmw

How you feed your baby, breast/bottle/both for 6months or 6 years is up to you (and your little bottle refuser Grin) and no one else. Just do what works for you and your dc and it’s all good Flowers

Don’t slate me but dd 2 calls it boobies tbh I live abroad so not as embarrassing as it would be in the uk. It also makes me smile. Only bf for nap and bed now and sometimes in the day if she sees the opportunity but I’ve got a boobies bed rule.

She’s starting nursery soon and I can honestly say I’ll miss her naps 😔

RebornFlame · 06/09/2019 22:44

I’m tryong to enforce some rules too as ds won’t eat if I feed him too near a meal time. So when I say ‘dood da later’ he has a very careful and slow collapse to the floor, his hands clutched to his forehead all he needs is a bag of smelling salts to complete the fainting diva look!

OP posts:
Mitebiteatnite · 06/09/2019 22:49

Oh reborn I've now got a picture in my head of your DS and his dramatic faux-fainting. Do you fan him with a magazine or similar until he gathers himself? Grin

partysong · 06/09/2019 22:52

Boobs or booby. Although for a while before he could say it properly it was "Booooze!" Which I childishly thought was hilarious
