am i going mad? i thought it was an alright article for a tab.

JeremyVile · 08/08/2007 16:20

So i've read it....
and shockingly thought it was ok.

anchovies · 08/08/2007 16:24

This line made me laugh

"The ?breast is best? view is backed by midwives, who on home visits in the first days of a baby?s life, will often try to physically make a new baby latch on to the mother?s breast."

TootyFrooty · 08/08/2007 16:26

They forgot the bit where the MW/HV says "Oh fgs give him a bit of formula, he's obviously hungry". Or was that just mine?

Katy44 · 08/08/2007 16:26

yes i noticed that
how else can they latch on? mentally?

Katy44 · 08/08/2007 16:27

And then they think they're full
Everyone happy

TootyFrooty · 08/08/2007 16:29

Except when you've made it clear you want to bf and all you need is help latching on.

Katy44 · 08/08/2007 16:30
Sad
Kif · 08/08/2007 16:30

I thought it was a good article - frankly bordering on breast is best propaganda.

"Mums should be aware that weight charts and averages used in the NHS "red books" issued for all babies are based on bottle-fed tots."

That's wrong. They're based on babies fed in all sorts of ways.

"The Health Service has gone too far towards promoting breastfeeding only. There is no middle ground for them."

I think she'll find that the NHS often DO promote formula - they fucking well did to me, on the postnatal ward when DS2 was less than 12 hours old, and to each of the other women I shared that ward with.

I found the rest of the article pretty good, really - winced a couple of times, but didn't want to pull body parts off the author. Better than some of the tat that's out there about bfing!

hunkermunker · 08/08/2007 16:32

Bit cross about the Breastfeeding Nazi header being used [understatement]

Can't post again, am on oven duty tonight. FFS!

Aitch · 08/08/2007 16:35

bfing nazis added by sub, though, not journo. sub is probably a man. not always (speaking from experience of being a female sub back in the day) but often. particularly on the tabs.

JeremyVile · 08/08/2007 16:35

Mine did that thing of trying to make him latch on, trying to get me to show her how i positioned him - after telling her that i had taken the decision to stop BFing. Once they accepted (grudgingly) that i wouldn't change my mind, i got lots of tuts and generally talked to like i was being a petulant child.

We all seem to be getting the wrong MWs/HVs!

hunkermunker · 08/08/2007 16:36

Yes, I thought it was out of tone with the rest and figured it was a sub, hence not being Incredibly Cross. But still cross. Because it's Not Good that it's a term in common parlance.

lol JV.

TootyFrooty · 08/08/2007 16:37

LOL @ Fio. Tricky one.

doggiesayswoof · 08/08/2007 16:46

Most of the article is ok and quite balanced I thought. The main thing that struck me is how rare it is to see pictures of women bfing. Lovely pic at the bottom of the article - so unusual to see that in the mainstream media, sadly. Glad they used it.

SweetyDarling · 08/08/2007 16:46

Shocking? Fairly ordinary, but not shocking.
