Ready made formula storage question

I'm shortly going to be needing to introduce some formula to my 4 month old who up until now has been on breastmilk. I've bought a couple of the ready made bottles of formula as I can't be bothered with the faff of powder. On the small bottles of instant formula for a single feed they say that once the carton is opened it must be stored in the fridge and used within 24hrs. On the large 1 litre bottles it's 48hrs. I have looked at the ingredients and the contents of both bottles seems to be identical, which makes sense so why are they saying the large bottle can be stored twice as long as the small bottle?

Yes I noticed that... we went for 48hrs and suffered no ill effects Smile

I mean, it must be the exact same stuff in each bottle? I'm leaning towards doing as you did as I suspect it's a con Hmm

Is it to do with the bacteria introduced from baby's mouth? A small bottle of formula you drink from means baby is introducing bacteria to the bottle via the teat and then you're putting it back in the fridge. With a larger bottle or carton you have to put it into another bottle for baby to drink from so the original carton may have a longer shelf life, but not anything baby hasn't drink once it's offered?

Yes agree with above. Difference is the baby’s bacteria in/on smaller bottle. I would imagine a 4 month old would drink the whole of those smaller bottles quickly though.

Ah I don't mean the 70ml little feed bottles that baby drinks directly from. I'd definitely be decanting into his MAM bottles. I mean these ones www.boots.com/aptamil-1-first-milk-from-birth-200ml-10155640?cm_mmc=bmm-buk-google-ppc--PLAs--(GB:Whoop!)+Aptamil-_-(GB:Whoop!)+Boots+Shopping+-+Category+-+Baby+-+Mobile&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=Cj0KCQjwh8jrBRDQARIsAH7BsXeBUTNv7MrCnsPPC1fGRp2Ly0fU_MTKnG10SjowK7dw4UY_kFgJTdoaArt2EALw_wcB

One thing to bear in mind is that some babies don't like ready mixed formula - my dd would only have it mixed with powder. Just a heads up!

How long can I keep a powder made bottle of aptamil … if I have made it fresh & cooled and my LO has had 2Oz from ?( or been used - regardless of amount ?) can it be kept if so how long or should it be discarded? I get people will have different opinions… open to all☺️
