FrannyandZooey · 06/08/2007 22:10

No -

you know -

good LORD

this thread is completely different to all the others

I have suddenly realised that breastfeeding is WRONG and FREAKY and OMG I DID IT AS LONG AS MY CHILD WANTED ME TO, WHAT WAS I THINKING OF AAAAAAAAAAARGH

beansprout · 06/08/2007 22:10

Heh heh

harpsichordcarrier · 06/08/2007 22:10

did anyone read the article? quite interesting, nasty scare mongering by (hey ho) a "scientific" study funded by a formula company. causing panic and affecting bf rates.
coincidentally.

oliveoil · 06/08/2007 22:10

is this the programme with the 8 year old? pathetic programme if it was and hardly representative as a whole

beansprout · 06/08/2007 22:11

Curse on you, damn lentil weaver!!!

harpsichordcarrier · 06/08/2007 22:11

erg franny that's not a pretty thought.

beansprout · 06/08/2007 22:11

Now, if we have finished, can I go and feed my 17 year old in peace, please?!!!

popsycal · 06/08/2007 22:12

harpsichordcarrier said
"anyway what you are failing to appreciate is that the duration of bf in determined by the desire of the child (or otherwise). most children will selfwean between 2 and 5. "

That's true harpsi & tbh I would be very suprised if DS is still feeding by the time he is 7. I plan to have another baby before then so there is a chnace he will wean when my milk supply dwindles during pregancy...but even if I don't he will no doubt wean in the next year or two I should think, going by his current bfing behaviour/pattern...hard to know what will happpen...Very odd to be thinking about all this though...I remember going to my first LLL meeting when pg with DS & think how really really wierd some of the mums were for feeding their toddlers...funny how your perspective changes

hunkermunker · 06/08/2007 22:16

Don't give up, Chocolatepeanut.

Think about why you feel like you do.

Is it because you equate breastfeeding with something sexual?

It's not.

Is it because you think that the mum's doing it for her own reasons?

She's not.

Is it because you think that breastfed older children feed on demand perhaps 12 times a day and through the night?

They don't (usually!).

Or is it something else?

I'm honestly interested. If I understand why you feel like you do, I can pitch my answer to your issues, you see.

oliveoil · 06/08/2007 22:19

she doesn't have reasons hunker, she has watched one oddball programme and Little Britain

proof if any were needed surely?

harpsichordcarrier · 06/08/2007 22:19

the baby whisperer thinks that any woman feeding past a year is doing it for her own reasons. that's what her books say and I saw her on a programme saying just that in her commentary.

hunkermunker · 06/08/2007 22:20

Well, true, OO - but I've watched both those too and I'm all right

hunkermunker · 06/08/2007 22:21

She's dead now, Harpsi, the baby whisperer.

beansprout · 06/08/2007 22:21

Well, so is Jesus, but he still has a bit of a following

oliveoil · 06/08/2007 22:22

hmmm, I can sort of see that if the mother likes the closeness then she is doing it for herself AS WELL as for the baby

and lots of threads on here mention how upset they were to stop feeding and would have carried on

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 06/08/2007 22:22

I never had any desire to breastfeed.

I know its not beacause I think of my breast as sexual only. I think it may have something to do with the fact I have very bad pregnancies and feel ill most of the time and this makes me feel that I have lost my body and me? When dd was born I was so relieved to feel well again that I wanted my body back.

I love my dd. She is everything to me and since the day she was born I have felt v blessed. I do resent that some bf mums have a dim view of us ff mums and asume that we are selfish. Its just not the case

oliveoil · 06/08/2007 22:22

arf at Jesus

am going to bed now

x

harpsichordcarrier · 06/08/2007 22:24

oh yes oo I agree, lots of women like it too, of course. but the BW thinks (thought) they are only doing it for their own reasons.
I have many views about the BW but it seems tacky to go on about it since she is as you say dead.

FrannyandZooey · 06/08/2007 22:24

I did it for my own reasons

I liked it

I thought it was the best thing to do all round

ds loved it and got so much from it

there was no ruddy reason to stop

harpsichordcarrier · 06/08/2007 22:25

also arf at Jesus.
Chocolatepeanut, maybe you could try and separate your own personal feelings though when judging others?
it can be very hurtful to judge other's feeding choices
