Hiya, I'm finding that now my dd is a year old that all the advice runs out, so here's my probably daft questions.

I'm giving her full fat milk in a bottle, does that bottle still need to be sterilised?

For juice, that she gets in a cup, do I still need to boil the water first? Or is tap water good enough?

How many bottles a day should she be getting? She's on 4 still, so maybe that's too much, but I'm not sure which one to drop.

Thanks for reading this far

Tap water is fine. No need to sterilise AFAIK after a year.

Not sure how many feeds she should have, but my ds is one on Thursday and he is having two bfs and one 4oz bottle a day.

when my DS was one, he had full fat milk in a bottle (not sterilized). no longer boiled water for juice and he had one bottle in the morning and one before bed.

Yoo can use tap water from 6 months so at a year it's really ok Sterilising can stop as soon as they are putting stuff in their mouths so again before a year is ok

Not sure on the bottles as ds1 is b/f but my twins were only on 2 bottles a day at a year

Thanks guys,

That's what I thought, it'll be good not to have to sterilise and keep boiled water on the go.

I'll probably change her afternoon drink to water from milk.

Thanks

Ds2 is 17 months and on two 6oz bottles of follow on formula a day - should I now put him onto cows milk - I can't remember what I did last time.

Also I have just started using water out of the tap to make up the feeds - is this OK (I haven't made him ill yet!)

17 months is fine for cows milk and yes tap water is also fine

Ds1 is 8 months and b/f but when I am out dh gives him weak juice with his solids and uses tap water.

Sorry just read that about tap water for formula feeds. That should be cooled boiled water as far as I know, but to be honest cows milk is fine and much easier x

At one my (breastfed) daughter started drinking tap water and full-fat cows' milk from a cup. No problems.

I've been wondering about this, DS is 10 months and on 4 breastfeeds a day.. going back to work after hols next week, keen to avoid two expressing sessions in the day as I was doing for ages, do others think it would be enough if he had a breastfeed morning and evening and one small bottle in the day, gradually adding more cows' milk to diet, or should I add a bit of formula (reluctant to use it)... or could he have cow's milk during the day and bf twice (has shown no probs with cow's milk so far)...?

He eats 3 full meals in the day as well, including cheese, meat etc. I'd like to stop bf around one, in two months' time.. I agree with OP that advice gets a bit patchy for this age...

Gemmitygem - you can give your DS full-fat cows' milk once he is 12 months and water to drink while you are out at work and breastfeed him morning and evenings and at weekends. No problems. Don't bother expressing.
