Gaviscon&Ranitidine vs. Anti reflux formula

5 week EBF baby suffers from really bad acid reflux. On gaviscon and a high dose of ranitidine. He's slightly better on the medicine but still suffers and throws up. Health visitor has advised to carry on with this method if were happy, but if not to switch to anti reflux formula milk.

Anyone done this? Don't want to give up breastfeeding if it's better for him, but if anti reflux formula will make that much difference and mean we can stop pumping him full of medicine maybe that's the better option?

So sorry you're having such a rough time.

Does his feeding sound anything like this?

My daughter had really bad reflux, ranitidine helped with the pain, she is also EBF - I just persevered with the ranitidine, as she was gaining normally so didn't see the need to change how she was fed. She spent a lot of time in the baby sling to keep her upright. Also we didn't find Gaviscon helped so stopped with that. For some reason when I gave up coffee the reflux stopped, (this was when I was eliminating foods to see if that helped) that was when she was 5 months. I then weaned her off the ranitidine and she seems to be fine now. Is the ranitidine helping with the pain for you? Is your baby gaining weight ok?
