ds2 (2 weeks old) thrown up the last two mornings - should i only offer one breast for first feed of the day?

might be a red herring about the time it happened, but was after first feed of the day yesterday, and same again today. not a problem with any other feeds

always difficult to gauge how much they've brought back up, but enough for me to have had to wash the moses basket lining as it was soaked (and had dripped through onto the surface below the basket)

i tend to offer the second breast as a matter of course - perhaps i shouldn't do this for the first feed of the day as i'm guessing the rest (well, a bit of it ) means my milk supply is better (and let down faster?)

My DS used to regularly gorge himself sick, his was usually in the evenings though, he'd have feeding frenzies and feed until his tummy was literally sloshing and then out half of it would come.

I got tougher about taking him off if I thought he was over-feeding, so I would say yes, only offer one breast and see how she goes. I'm sure she'll let you know if she's still hungry.

Hello, It does sound like he is taking too much in that first feed. I think my DS2 used to do the same thing. When was his last night feed? I am sure that he will let you know if one breast isn't enough.

The only disadvantage is if the gap between the night feed and the first of the day is big and you're breasts are getting rock hard and uncomfortable. I suppose then you would have to express at the same time or offer the second breast half an hour later if he is awake enough.

Alternatively is it possible he has more wind at night and that is causing the throwing up. I know that I was always loathed to do anything that would wake the boys up after a feed in the night so would spend as little time as possible winding although to be fair, they never needed much winding. I remember DS1 throwing up in similar spectacular fashion after a mammoth feed in the middle of the night. I was half asleep and had the fright of my life as I was still holding him. I had to change all the bedclothes too. Where does it all come from?!!

Oops sorry, just noticed you have a DS - not sure where I got DD from!

he's feeding pretty much 3 hourly day and night, so it's not that he's gone a long time between feeds - if the first feed of the 'day' is any different i suppose it's because i've had a few chunks of sleep, so my milk supply has had the chance to pick up overnight
