Hi. My Son is on Neocate as well as pumped breast milk. He will guzzle the breast milk down, a good 5-6oz bottle of it however I've never been able to EBF due to illness at birth and low milk supply but can manage some. My Son has been on Neocate for a good 2.5 months however still will not drink over 3oz a time and I'm becoming increasingly concerned. I saw a private paediatrician allergist who advised SMA Alfamino as they don't use Neocate. Has anyone used it? Had better success on it? I'd be happy if he even ate 4 oz of it - at my wits end now! Thanks for any advice you give xx

Could it be the taste he doesn't like? I know some people flavour it very slightly to make it more palatable, can't for the life of me remember what with? Maybe vanilla flavouring or Nesquick milkshake powder?

There's also CMPA Facebook groups you can join. Very helpful and you may get more answers to your query there.

We’ve ended up on soy based formula as ds will not touch Althera or alfamino (alfamino smells like salt n vinegar crisps to me and not in a nice way) we were told we could flavour them too but had no success. Soy isn’t recommended since they can be allergic to both, ds isn’t but I’ve got a feeling it’s more lactose than cmpa with him (family history of lactose intolerance)

My friend's baby recently switched from Neocate to SMA Alfamino and is getting on better with it 👍

You know this already but breastmilk is the easiest thing for a CMPA baby. Have you seen a lactation consultant or breastfeeding counsellor about your low supply? Sometimes it's not actually low supply but something else.
Also, which pump are you using? The right pump can make all the difference. You could hire a hospital grade pump.

Hi. Thanks for the replies. I know it's 100% taste because he has just this minute drank 6oz of breastmilk with a big smile on his face. I tried mixing the 2 but he is not fooled!

I haven't tried a lactation consultant however going to speak to health visitor on Thursday see if she can get me in touch to see if I can increase my supply, however got to weigh up as he seems to be sensitive to anything I eat, so it's a pain, and my diet is becoming so so restricted!

Hopefully it will sort soon, luckily he has always put on weight and is a big 17 week! Thanks x

HVs are not known for their expertise when it comes to breastfeeding issues or allergies, sadly. You might be lucky but I think the most help than can give is refer you to a breastfeeding counsellor or lactation consultant.

Same situation . Lo is 5 months now still brestfeeding and I'm on a dairy free diet because lo refuses the cmpa fomulas have tried them all and added nesquick and vanilla extract he isn't fooled. Only real success I had with the formula was with a doidy cup but that was only a few sips.
