Expressed Milk

This might be a stupid question but I can't find the answer on Google so hoping someone can help on here!

I'm starting to express milk but I've also been using the haakaa silicone pump to catch the leakage during feeds. I don't get a lot from this, maybe an oz if I'm lucky but mostly less than that. I'm only doing it in the evening at one or two feeds. I currently put whatever I get into one bag (following the guidelines to make sure they are at the same temp etc if taken from different sessions in the same day). However as the quantities are so small, could I defrost multiple bags of these small quantities and mix them together when I need to use them for a feed?! Any advice very much welcome as I'm a bit lost as to whether I can do this or not.

Yeah we used to do that quite often. Never had enough in one bag for a feed!

In scibu LO was fed from whatever bottle was open and mixed bottles if there wasn't enough in one for a full feed so I'm sure it's fine. I think the key is not to keep "topping up" one bag/bottle over multiple days as then you don't know the age or you have to go by oldest date.

Yes you can definitely do this. As Veni says what you want to not do is keep topping up one bag because if you put say Monday's milk into the bag, then add Tuesday's and Wednesday's to the same bag (or bottle) you can only store it until the following Monday (assuming 7 day life span - I forget now how many days it is) - if you didn't need it until Tuesday, you would have to chuck the lot away. Whereas if you have 3 separate bags, Mon/Tue/Wed, you'll still have to chuck Monday's away when you remember the following Tuesday, but you can use Tuesday and Wednesday's milk so you'll have 2/3 of it at least.

Ah fab - thank you so much for the replies! Yes I'm not topping up the bags from different days or anything- I've kept them all separate and been freezing as I go. Thank you again!
