SMA Alfamino grainy HELP!

Formula1991 · 01/08/2019 17:15

Hi! Has anyone been prescribed SMA Alfamino for their little ones CMPA allergy?

My DS has been on it for a week and no matter what I can not get it to mix proper. Done exactly what it says on the tin, tried a other things but just still little grains all over the bottle no matter what.

DS is drinking most of his bottles. Little fussy...but his symptoms have been better on this than the 5 others we’ve been on.

So any ideas on how to get rid of the grains would be much appreciated!

Hi ☺️ Masons wind issues seem to have settled now, last night he didn’t wake at all which was great. I hope it lasts 🤞 I think I’m going to have to put mason on some medication he seems to be struggling a little bit, not a huge amount but he’s definitely not the happy baby he was when on ranitidine. How are things going for you?

Matthew23 · 04/11/2019 20:29

I’m having a bit of disaster. Nights are very difficult! Last night was absolutely horrendous! Massive issue with gas.
The day was better today , although we had one occasion of projectile vomiting.
Last time it took 7 days for the medicine to kick in, so I’m hoping to see some improvement tomorrow and Wednesday 🤞🤞🤞 Otherwise I’ll be dead! I just need to get some sleep
With my dietician I’m starting weaning tomorrow , butternut squash purée . I’m apprehensive but very excited too !
Have you started any medication already? Or not yet?

Jess7cw · 05/11/2019 11:59

Oh god I hope things get better for you. Maybe you need a different dose? It was almost like someone flicked a switch with mason’s gas problem, last Friday it just stopped. We started the Omeprazole this morning. Oo I’m excited for you to start weening I really hope it helps you🤞🤞

Matthew23 · 05/11/2019 15:41

It was the same with Sophia. Last Sunday her issue with gas was gone and then on Wednesday, when we started omeprazole it started again. I’m just hoping we need to wait a couple of days more and she will settle in, as the doze is higher then before.
She loved her butternut squash purée today 😃 I just gave her a tiny bit, but it was nice to watch her enjoying it.
Good luck with the omeprazole, please let me know how are you getting on.

Jess7cw · 06/11/2019 03:48

Aw I’m glad Sophia is loving the butternut squash! So first night on Omeprazole and mason started thrashing about at 3.30 with wind pains again and is wide awake 😩 lets hope we just have to ride it out. He was better in the day so I really hope it will pass because I don’t know which is worse if I’m honest. I’ve been keeping a diary of his symptoms since September and the wind issues are definitely all down to the reflux meds ☹️ Please let me know if they start to get better or worse for Sophia. I was so wary of starting Omeprazole I’m doubting myself already that we shouldn’t have done it

Matthew23 · 07/11/2019 18:37

So, we are 8 days in. Today was definitely better! Although in the late afternoon she was slightly more uncomfortable with more wind. Unfortunately Nights are still difficult , but not as bad as they were 5 days ago.
I’ll be honest I’m doubting myself if it was a good idea. But all the mums from those two Facebook groups says it takes about 2,5 weeks for the babies to settle in, and then it’s great.
I hope....! As I’m in desperate need of some sleep!
I’ll text you in the morning how was the night. 🤞🤞🤞🤞
Let me know how Mason is getting on as well

Matthew23 · 07/11/2019 19:33

I’ve got a diary too. And I have to agree, the gas issue started when she started taking reflux medications

Jess7cw · 07/11/2019 20:54

Aw good I’m glad today was better, that gives me hope. Today has been our worst yet and I’m prepping myself for another day of it tomorrow. Mason didn’t nap all day but has been asleep the last 2 hours no. But he keeps crying in his sleep. This acid battle is no joke I really hope it’s worth it. The gas is definitely due to the medicine I found a good website that explains why it causes it I’ll find the link for you

You might have already seen it. Hope you have a good night

Matthew23 · 08/11/2019 09:03

Thank You for the link, very interesting reading. What dose is Mason on?
I give Sophia 5ml in the morning and 2,5ml in the evening.
She was up again since 4am, completely awake since 5:40. I’m so tired!!!
But up to 4am was fine so it’s a massive improvement

Jess7cw · 08/11/2019 09:59

Mason has 10mg first thing in the morning. Glad you had a bit of a better night hopefully things improve each night! I saw on one of the Facebook pages a lady say she takes Omeprazole as an adult and wakes up in the early hours with tummy ache like she’s hungry and eating helps. So my boyfriend suggested we dream feed mason like we used to about 11, and he didn’t have any issues until 5.30 when he had loads of wind but went back to sleep until 7.15 once he passed it. It might have just been a coincidence and would have been like that anyway but the later feed was the only thing we did differently. Before his last bottle was about 7pm. The other problem I’m having at the minute is putting mason down, he was never clingy until we started Omeprazole now he just cries until I pick him up 😩 and he will not lay flat again

Matthew23 · 09/11/2019 19:03

Wow! That’s sounds quite good!
And I’m getting confused ! Yesterday we had an amazing day, almost gas free. But in the afternoon Sophia got her last injections, including MMR. Obviously she reacted quite badly, had high temp and was up a lot in the night. I had to give her Calpol, which caused wet burps. Today she was pretty irritable, but what really confused me she had gas again?! Really don’t understand. Is it reaction to the jab? Is it just one off? She wasn’t feeding very well as well, but there was no vomiting or arching?
What about Mason? How was he today ? And was last night as good as previous one?

Matthew23 · 12/11/2019 13:32

Hi, how are you getting on?
I’m 13 days in and still not ‘gas free’ although there is significantly less gas.
I hope Mason is coping well

Hi,
Did you find the solution to the formula being grainy as I am dealing with the same issue

wpolacek018 · 30/05/2021 22:31

Hello! I am having this issue now and because the formula is so grainy (leaving granules in the bottle) it also seems to be constipating our daughter. Did you find a solution?

Kellis13117 · 30/05/2023 20:15

Hi did you get any info on why alfamino does this?
