Help!!! How can I get my teething son to take his bottle?

He is clearly hungry - keeps reaching for the bottle, but sucks then stops. It is obviously really uncomfortable.
I have tried calgel, a sippy-type cup and even mixing his milk with baby rice, but all are too uncomfortable for him!
He has only had 4 oz all day, and he is really hungry, but won't take it.
What can I do?????

open cup? means he doesn't need to suck so might be less painful.
Or even dose with calpol to stop the pain and see if he takes it then. How old is he?

tried an open cup, but he is only 6 months, so it all went down his front.
Didnt think of calpol for teething. Will give that a shot.
Poor thing

How did you go with the calpol. Have you tried the teething powders? I found Ashton and Parsons worked really well for my little one. Someone on the weekend suggested I rub milk of magnesia on my ds's gums as he has back teeth coming through which are giving him trouble - she was a qualified child minder. I haven't tried it yet, but I think I will.

I used the calpol, and he bit the teat at the side of his mouth while swallowing - he polished off 2 oz like this (took aaaagggeeesss!).
Then he went to sleep (missed his earlier nap as he wouldnt settle .
hooray for calpol!
He is due another feed in the next 1/2 hour, so hopefully this may be more successful..
