as loads of you know ive been having probs staying pg. this has made me very very bitter about unplanned pgs (of which i seem to hear an awful lot).

my stepmums niece is only just 16 and due in september (around the same time my ep was) and i was talking to my stepmum today she said "L's planning on bf-ing and she might be in touch with you." i failed to bf ds so am probably not the best person to advise, but i am vv pro-bf.

the thing that has pleased me so much is that she has decided (against the advice of her mum and even the mw assumed that she would ff) to do this. i probably sound like a condescending witch but after hearing about all the other pg's where the dads not known (2), 33yo not knowing you can get pg 1m after giving birth (1) and the coming baby is described as an inconvienience (5) this young girl in less than ideal circumstances (will be living with alcoholic mother, dp and 3 brothers) has made this decision.

Hope she keeps it up. I'm going to try and BF.
Have put a thread in my watching about a mn who's freind has been told to ff.
Mners have been saying insist on seeing a bf midwife person. So i will try and remember that.

Good for her. And good for you for having the emotional maturity to be able to feel pleased about it too!

It is galling isn't it - I tried for years to conceive while those around me seemed to be getting pregnant willy nilly (well I guess more willy than nilly ).

I hope 2008 brings you the second baby you yearn for

'tar all with the same brush' It happened exactly the same with my sis lissie the midwife presumed she wouldn't bf and she did with both her dc's when she was 17 and 21 and is a brill mum and was a natural bfer. i hope she has a lovely experience with her baby and age is definately not a factor in being a fantastic mother.

How lovely.
So important when coping with breastfeeding to be surrounded by important encouraging people.

Wurzel,I'm a member of Association for Breastfeeding mothers. Tjey have a good website and a helpline for mothers which is

08444 122 949.
I'll link to website.

Be careful, even supposed 'bf midwife people' often don't know their arse from their elbow.Best bet is (unpaid) breastfeeding counsellor which all the people on ABM helpline are.

Make a note.

BandofMuggles · 29/07/2007 20:58

Lissie, how lovely. You will advise her just fine. Give her some numbers to call.
Or send her on here

Wurzel, as long as you make sure your MW's know you want to bf you'll be ok. They can't make you ff, and if you tell them you want to bf they wont give your baby a bottle.

With the right support,no reason why you shouldn't be able to Wurzel. Think positive and remember we are on here at all hours to help you.

lissie · 29/07/2007 21:06

from the "increasing bf rates" thread the main issue was support! contact the La Leche League wurzel, you'll be fine!
