Baby won’t unlatch after being fed to sleep

DS2 is 7 months old and has always been fed to sleep for all naps, night wakings etc.
It’s fine and I don’t want to stop this necessarily as he will sleep for DH if he absolutely needs to.

However for the last few weeks, and getting progressively worse, once he falls asleep he won’t unlatch. If I try to unlatch him he moans and roots until I put the nipple back in, and if I don’t then he will cry and wake up.

I’ve tried swapping for a dummy - worked at first but he now refuses it (plus he would always wake sooner if I put him down with a dummy in)

I’ve tried swapping sides (read this on line) but that doesn’t work

I’ve tried rocking him after unlatching him but he wakes up.

I’m at the end of my tether. It took an hour at his first wake up last night to get him off me and back down, and then his second waking at 4 I was there for an hour trying and he eventually woke up and was up for the day!

I’m shattered, please help!

Oh this has brought back memories of dd doing the exact same thing at that age, hideous!! She wanted nipple in mouth 24/7 and it nearly drove me to drink.

I fed her till sleepy and then transferred to pram to rock her and when asleep in the pram I transferred to the cot. A bloody palaver! Eventually I could rock her in my arms and then put her down. She did stop doing it around 9 months if I remember correctly.

That sounds like a bit of a faff. I’ve tried rocking in my arms but no joy.

DS1 did it but I can’t remember for how long. I did stop BF him at around 8/9 months and I’m wondering if this was the reason (or amongst the reasons) but I would like to carry on with DS2 for longer if possible but this is driving me insane.
