Pre made formula

I’m breastfeeding, so don’t really know anything about formula feeding.

I’m taking some ready bottles out with me in case, as my 8 month old has gone off breastfeeding in the day.
What do I do about a bottle to put it into? Does it need to be sterilised that day?

I used to sterilise a bottle, do it up and put it in my bag.

Aptamil do travel bottles. 90ml bottles with disposable teats. We used them for travelling top ups. Also used to sterilise bottles in the morning wrap in cling film and use as needed.

Yeah you need to put the pre-made formula into a sterilised bottle but they can have it cold which is easier (if they'll take it) sometimes if I can I give mine a little warm through. (This is cow and Gate) they had bottles with disposable teats in the hospital but I can't find any anywhere

The aptamil disposables are sold in boxes of 10 from memory.

As I understand it, over 6 months you don't need to sterilise the bottle, just wash as you do with the pots.

What I mean is, I’ve sterilised some bottles tonight, they’re still in the steriliser, can I take them out and just put into the changing bag tomorrow morning? Then add the formula to it when necessary?

@CathyandHeathcliff yes that's what I do. I have the cover lids for the bottle sterilised and put them on, they prevent any contamination to the bottle or teet

Yes, just put the lids on are they are ready to use for 24 hours. However an 8 month old doesn't really need a sterilised bottle.

If you do start to use formula more, the boxes of powder are more cost effective and what I do is take out one flask of boiled water and one of boiled and cooled water.
The formula powder goes into these little portion containers that you can get in super markets. When I'm out (baby drinks 7oz right now) it's 2oz boiling water, add powder, shake, then 5oz cooled water. It mixes to room temperature.

I used take a sterilised bottle out with me and then tip the ready made in when I was ready to do a feed. I used to sterilise the bottles in the evening and would re-sterilise any that hadn't been used.

You should sterilise until at least 12 months www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/sterilising-bottles/
