Bottle Feeding and Pooing!

babysbreath · 23/07/2007 12:08

My little girl is five weeks old and she is being bottlefed.
Her pattern of pooing has changed and she is now only pooing every other day and when she goes, she goes!! The poo is really runny and it gets everywhere and it even started seeping out of her nappy.
Is this normal or should I be worried?

It could be normal. Normal when pooing is really hard to assess! Does she look like she normally does? Is she reacting to things like she normally does? I did have this once or twice and discovered it was just one of those things - but I know how worrying it can be. Suggest you ring your health visitor and talk to her about it.

At this age my formula fed ds started going 2-3 days between poos but when he went you knew about it . It used to go up his back and down his legs. I am glad to say once he started weaning he went back to pooing most days and it is much more able to be contained. Sounds normal to me.

Babysbreath, which formula are you using? Have you changed it? What colour is the poo?

Sorry for all the questions!

Thanks for your replies.
I'm using Cow & Gate Comfort (yellow box). Previously, I was feeding her Cow & Gate No. 1 (green box). Also, I sometimes use the C&G ready made cartons, when out for the day.
Her poo has a hint of green and is very smelly.

I don't think it is anything to be concerned about, in the firest few weeks babys tend to poo a lot more often as the sucking reflex stimualtes their little digestive system and everything gets moved on and out, that's why babies often poo and fart a lot when they are feeding.
this page has reviews on cow and gate formula might be interesting to you?

Hi there, my dd2 had green poo for a few days (ff from birth), and I think it was a bit of a tummy bug. Saying that, babies nappies can be any colour from one to the next as you have experienced, so I don't think you need to be concerned. I guess if you feel lo is poorly, ie more sleepy or deyhdrated (drier nappies than the norm) then a good idea to see the GP or HV.
