My LO is 5 weeks old and I've been EBF since birth. He was really unsettled during the first few weeks and comfort fed a lot, and I eventually succumbed to the dummy in week 4. I was advised breast feeding was 'established' at this point by my midwife so was hoping it wouldnt affect feeding. The dummy does settle him and help him sleep without me feeding him which is great, but I'm now having issues feeding and I'm wondering if the dummy is causing it or whether it could be reflux/wind/bad latch.
When feeding he struggles to stay latched, he comes off the breast after 10 mins and then when i try to get him back on he won't latch properly. He also does this pecking motion with his mouth open, as if he's trying to relatch but doesn't actually close his mouth, and seems agitated. He wriggles a lot and arches his back during a feed. Most times he cries after a feed as well and is very fussy in the night i believe due to wind.
Could it be nipple confusion caused by the dummy? I'm worried I'll need to stop breast feeding because of this.
